^ Need for Speed Shift ^

They give a good representation of driving given the medium they are running on. Live For Speed is extremely accurate for what it is.

 I'm not trying to change anybody's mind, I'm just stating my feelings about the game. This is a discussion forum you know. <-- no shiz sherlock

Very true, but the other games I mentioned do a MUCH better job than Shift :)

im not saying you cant repeat the same boring churn 'its not realistic!!!! its not a simulation !!! its not a realistic racing simulation!!! .. you've made your point why do you persist in repeating it?

LFS is widly regarded as a great game, ive dabbled with it but prefer rFactor but sometimes i want to have fun and games like GRID/Shift are perfect for that.

You and many others dont like Shift, we know.. we know ... dont turn it into a trolling event please ;)

Just played the demo of this and it is shockingly bad in my opinion. What is with the racing line they put on there? It says to brake, i do so and then i shoot over the corner as i am still going to fast. It says to keep speed, i do so i shoot over corner as i am going to fast.

I start the game up, immeadiatly it has brake assist and steering assist, seriously, why would you need this? :/

turn off all assists, turn off the noob line then adjust the controls.. its actually more sim than arcade so you need to learn how to drive each car.. not to mention spend time tweaking each cars setup .. the more effort you put in the better it is ,

Anyone tried it online yet?

Just done two hours or so of online play, it's laggy as hell. Plus it doesn't seem to sync the friggin' starting-lights up at the start of a race... some people will be off and half way round the first bend before others even get the first red starting light.

Garbage... which is a shame because the single player is alright.

yep ive had quite a few online races and had no lag, no sync problems .. considerably less idiots than in GRID.. best race was around Spa, we were in tier 1 cars so it took forever :p

Is the G25 the way to go if you want a steering wheel?

basically you pay for what you get, the G25 is expensive for a reason and its reflected in its build quality and ease of use.

You can buy cheaper wheels that will do a job but a G25 is for life :p

haha stop talking wet!

graphically this has nothing on grid! only reason pics in here look decent is because people have downsized them from 1920x1200 to 800x600

then put graphics mod on grid and it absolutely blows away this game graphically

you've only spent an hour on Shift !! most of that learning to drive around the first corner !!! you havent yet sampled all its delights !! :p

GRID has great visuals (which improve again if you remove the 'brown' tint) but Shift blows it away for photo realistic graphics.. end of

No-one else having issues running this game?

I honestly can't play it because the stuttering in corners are so irratating. :(

your rig should have absolutely no problem with this game, try the basics.. install after a defrag , update all the latest drivers ... nVidia's 190.62 here

im running a stock c2d e6700 @ 2.67Ghz, 4gig ram , GTX280 1920*1200 all maxed with 4xAA and its smooth even with a full grid..

ive even lobbed an older 8800GTX in the machine and the perfromance was practically as good... the majority of users on here have far superior hardware so i can only assume its general setup?

Just got the full game installed yesterday haven't played too much, theres a little bit of stuttering every now and then on my rig, see my sig.

But my bro's computer runs like crap :( he's using a 260GTX so it seems to be a problem with Nvidia's cards and there drives.

its more the other way around, ATi users have had the problems with gfx drivers ...

the only thing really is to check the performance of ones PC, close down the usual programs running in the background unplug any devices not needed etc etc

Anyone up for a Time Trial Championship?

Say we take a vote on a vehicle and track and people have a week to set a quick lap. The winner would then go on to select the vehicle and track for the next week or we can just take a vote again.

Sound good?

im in, and we also need to setup a few races when were all on the track together :)

I feel almost guilty sat the ease with which Shift runs on my games machine (e6600@3GHz, 260GTX, WinXP, G25), and at the incredible amount of immersive fun I've had over the last week or so. I wish I could share a bit of that with everyone having problems, because I honestly think this is the most 'serious fun' I've ever had in a game/sim.

Ok, Shift has physics which seem to flatter the driver a little too much, but I still think they've done a great job of finding a middle ground which can -- if given a chance -- appeal to all. And the cockpit experience, to me anyway, is the best I've had in any sim. The sense of speed is amazing IMO... the first sim to realistically capture that. Even iRacing, the physics benchmark, fails to convey the speed you're travelling at and therefore fails to grab me the way Shift does.

However I am only a PC-only gamer (I've never owned or spent much time with consoles), and have only ever used cockpit views to race (well, ok since 'Powershift' on the BBC Micro :-). So I might be an unrepresentative audience sample.

I agree with you, the game is superb and immersive but i guess its just a little too difficult for some to play. We know the handling is fantastic and bridges the gap between full on sim and arcade in a way that you cant simply pick a car and just belt it round a track. The game requires you to think about each corner and approach it with the car at the right speed and angle, otherwise like in most real life situations your just going off the track into a barrier !

the game definately has that 'marmite factor', but the test for me was a bitter console mate who refused to give the game time, hated the handling and spent most the time whinging and blaming bad coding for not being able to drive. However after playing with the G25 for a good couple of 3-4hr session's he's bought the game on the PC haha..

in other news....

i bought the game from the EA Store and used a £10 coke-cola token, apparantly this was the CE and had an extra car/liveries which i never recieved a code for.. today i got a message from EA support with a new serial which includes said car so ive ended up with two working copies of the game for £20... result !

I wasn't going to get pulled back in to this discussion because I have made all my points but I just had to comment on the above statement, because it's quite simply not true. I don't find it 'too difficult to play', I just find it crap :)

yawn  , if i was going to refer to you i would use your name, dont be so tetchy !! i thought you'd left the thread anyways? you've repeated yourself over and over and over but i guess with so many of us singing the games praises and declaring our love for it you couldnt resist some more trolling ?

if you look back you will see tons of forum members enjoying the game, happily discussing setups and the games merits, theres even a thread open dedicated to time trials and such.

shame you cant bring anything worthwhile to the thread..

Drexel, its got nothing to do with being a fanboy or whatever you class me as, im merely stating your posts are boring and repetative.. if someone dislikes the game and wants to state why thats fine and i accept that..

buy why cant you move along ? why if someone states they like the game you have to retort to 'its crap' ? why do you persist in having to have a dig when sooo many others are enjoying the game ? why did you comeback to the thread after you yourself said you'd had enough ? get over yourself pal .. lol

anyway, lets both not derail this anymore ? /hug ?

I CAME BACK TO CORRECT YOU ON YOUR INCORRECT ASSUMPTION THAT PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THE GAME BECAUSE THEY FIND IT TOO DIFFICULT.

tetchy much ? oh and btw people do dislike it because its too difficult, fact !! sorry to upset you so much seems your wasting your time ..

you bring nothing to this thread but childish rants ..

I give up. It's actually impossible to have a discussion with you.

its not impossible, im more than willing to discuss with rational people..and you wont give up.

your basically trying to enforce upon me/others the handling is 'crap' and the game is 'crap' and then expect me 'fanboy' to accept this without response or recompense.

there are many people who have 'bought' NFS Shift and play it with a console controller and manage to drive and set laptimes no problems. However, in your stubbornness you refute that the game has any redeeming qualities and is 'crap'.

please feel free to explain why myself and thousands of other Shift players are enjoying the game immensely and are happily discussing its merits IF the game like you say is so bad ? Why the game has received so many high scores in reviews ? why ?

surely if this game were as bad as the few of you are saying, this thread wouldnt have had so much traffic, so to spk :)

Are you going to back your 'factual' claims or were you just baiting as I suspect?

"your basically trying to enforce upon me/others the handling is 'crap' and the game is 'crap' and then expect me 'fanboy' to accept this without response or recompense."

Except he isn't, you seem to be reading this, but he isn't writing this. No wonder he feels like he is banging his head against a wall.

tag teams now ? unless he's edited his posts the words 'crap game' 'crap handling' and 'fanboy' are there.

okay the threads been seriously derailed, ill accept ive sadly be drawn into this process and contributed to that, but for now shall we just all have a cuppa a scone and get back on track ?

that interview with Mr Bell is quite encouraging and at least they are working on fixing some issues.
