Let's get Season 2 Week 6 underway

Week 6: Mitsubishi Lancer EVOLUTION 'Works Converted' @ Silverstone National

Chosen by inam22

Loads of grip as you'd expect with this car.

Edit.. Good luck everybody trying to beat danswan. Another AWD car LOL. Can he be the first to get three in a row... never been achieved yet.

Thanks all, we'll see how this week goes, I obviously have some affinity with AWD cars, despite the fact I had to wiki what AWD meant when we started this time trial lol.

I think a lot of my upturn in fortunes recently is due to me starting to get to grips with this G25, I think if used correctly it should always give me an advantage over pad users, it's highly recommended. Only problem is I am now about to shell out the best part of £300 on a seat/frame to mount the thing on

Ah, a wheel user. I'm sure sweeping turns (i.e. Donington) are easier to manage with a wheel.

On the subject of seat/frame etc. Take a look at these wheel/pedal stands Dan.

They get good reviews.

just got back from work...

too tired to give it a go tonight.. working tmrrow as well :(

hows this week combo?? any good?

I think this weeks will be very close - there's only 6 turns to master and the car's very stable. I think we might be seperated by hundredths of a second at the end.
I agree. This combo will be close.
grs remember the Skyline Willow Springs Combo from season 1 and how much grip the Skyline has. This car is similar, so much grip. It's a very easy car to drive & the Silverstone National circuit is very flat & smooth. I can't see 2+ sec separating the top ten personally.

Very slight improvement. Getting into the 53's is proving more difficult than I expected. I think I'm playing with the settings too much rather than concentrating on driving the car.

buy the mitsubishi evolution then buy all upgrades then upgrade to works.

i cant get any faster than 55.3 :( dont no what to do in the settings but tried a few things and cant get any faster.
Gearing. Coming from the LP640 to the Lancer Evo X the gearing is going to feel strange & slow. This is expected. You're not doing anything wrong. Experiment with Final Drive & Sixth gear so that you approach Redline in Sixth on the long back straight. You should be hitting ~145-150mph. Once that's sorted evenly spread 2nd through 5th gears. Tweaking only required after that.

Lower your tyre pressures, somewhere in the 27-28 psi range. Have the Rear Tyre pressure slightly higher than the front. e.g. 27 Front 28 Rear. Experiment. What suits me may not suit you.

Lower the Wing settings. This car has so much mechanical grip it doesn't need a lot of Aero (Wing) downforce to keep the car planted. Start with say 6 Front - 8 Rear.

Another thing worth noting is this track is 'Smooth & Flat'. No undulations, bumps in braking zones etc. This means you can run the car lower to the ground by adjusting the ride height. The lower the car's ride height the more stable & planted the car will feel.

Generally the lower the ride height the stiffer the spring settings. Set the Front & Rear springs stiffer until you get juddering/skipping (normally in the rear) then go a step back. There are other things you can do to combat this juddering but I'll go into to that at a later date.

Hopefully that will help a little.

I've been thinking for a while about doing a 'Simple' tuning guide. Nothing too indepth, I'm no expert. Something along the lines of the order in which one undertakes tuning & why you are making the change. Where possible I'll try & use everyday examples e.g. riding a bike to put it in layman terms.

i'm not oging to post a scren shot as i can get passed 57.125! think i need to tune my car but dont have a clue where to start

See above for a few tips

1.2's separates the top ten. Top eight less than a second. This is going to be a real close fight as I predicted. Easy car to drive. Nice circuit with ride run offs
