Was it actually a mistake, though, or did you just lose the hand? Did you miss something? Did you bet it properly?

I'm sure you know already, but sometimes you can play perfectly, bet exactly right and still lose. That's poker.

Anybody that isn't prepared to take a large loss from time to time shouldn't be in a game with stakes that high, because it WILL happen periodically. It happens to the best. All you can do is look at it philosophically, shrug and move on. Or stop playing for those stakes.

I was hungover, feeling lucky and possibly a little cocky. One thing I have learned is to never take your emotions into a game.

My old man has the best idea.
For at least 15 years he has had a £5 bet every day on whatever he wants.
He loves the horses but also puts money on footie and he never goes over his budget so he knows he can lose £35 a week or £1825 a year.
However, all his winnings goes into a pot and he does have some very lucky days and over the year he will be nearly even.
When he has a win eg £300 he will buy a piece of recording studio equipment because even at the age of 70 he loves recording songs all day.
At least once a year his 'winnings' takes him and his wife to a racecourse where they blow the lot but he knows that he will never spend more than £1825 a year on a hobby he loves and he does get most of it back.

Indeed :(

I can afford it, but I cant believe I made such a stupid noob mistake. I will get it all back this week though :D

If you could afford it then you wouldnt be posting on here needing to 'vent' or expressing what a 'noob' mistake it was.

If you're going to make it all back within a week then again, why the need to vent?

Because this is a discussion board, who are you to quiz him on his finances?

Just because you can afford to lose it doesn't mean you can't be annoyed with yourself if you do so stupidly.

I am annoyed as I just lost a lot of money and I needed to vent. If you just lost that much money would you tell your girl friend who will moan at you, or some strangers on a forum?

I am up about £40,000 from online gambling.

I was introduced to it from a thread on this forum, I've been hooked ever since.

Ok, i missed this post! Impressive. How much time do you have to put in to it to get these kind of returns?

He got a straight flush on the flop, You cant see those coming :/

you usually can, usually the fact that 3 or more of the same suit with consecutive numbers are on the table followed by someone betting large is a good indicator.

People, please take posters reported "winnings" with a grain of salt - people aren't so quick to admit the losses or what it does to their life :D

Remember kids, chase your losses :D

I wouldn't tell my partner I just lost 2.6k on a bet, but I would surprise her with 1 million ;)

I'm not a gambling man though my friend. I've never had the need for it and don't really see the point.

If you do start to lose a lot of money and refuse to give up, please just step away because you could end up with a gambling addiction :)
