OP you're not a financial advisor are you, you seem to live in the same dream world.

Still i expect you really have won 40K ..... not, no way man ..... not in a zillion years........ somehow i dont think so ........ ha, ha ,ha ,ha ,ha ...... there's one born everyday........

Playing Hold'em? It's not exactly unbelievable if he has enough money to play with. Online poker isn't gambling in it's truest form.

I don't consider myself a particularily good player but I've managed to make a fairly decent profit for myself. And I'm a student.

Oh and btw OP, I find it very hard to believe that a player of your standard who has managed to acquire a healthy bankroll would be stupid enough to make a trivial mistake... or make the comment "you don't see a straight flush coming", unless you are being sarcastic.

I've made a good few thousand pounds myself, mostly from the casino bonuses - but to the OP, at least take care. Ask yourself whether there's really any need to bet at such high stakes, don't use "I'm still £35k up overall" as an excuse to keep going, and certainly don't assume (as you seem to have done) that you'll be able to make it back in no time. I seriously doubt you can be at all sure that you'll "make the 3000 back in a week" - and if you are, then I'd guess you're very close to a gambling addiction.

After a loss as big as yours, if I were you I'd take a couple of weeks away from it all, make a conscious decision on whether you want to continue at all, and if you do have a clear strategy that isn't going to lose you £3000 again.

Well done for getting £35000 out of it, but tread very carefully, it doesn't take many £3000 losses to turn that into a loss.

Sorry it was not a straight flush, it was just a flush - 2, 5, 7, J, 8 spades.

PinkPig I dont normally bet that much money, you get carried away sometimes.

There was 2 of us left - He had 2, 5, 7, J, spades. I had 3 9's, the flop was 8 of spade, just unlucky :(

You say the flop was an 8 of spade, the flop is 3 cards usually?

I don't understand that

Your saying you had pocket 9's?

He had 2,5 of Spades?

Flop comes 7 J 9 ? all of spades?

You obviously have no idea what you're on about. I remember the casino thread from these forums, there were a number of people who won several thousands on it, so if you're a decent poker player there's no reason why you couldn't increase that bankroll to £40k. I myself won £1000 in 10 weeks just from blackjack.

For some one that claims to have won so much from poker it seems strange that you don't know your straight flushes from your flushes and the flop from the river

yeah I smell something fishy......you sure it wasn't £2600 on a play for fun table?
Sounds like you dont know your hands.....maybe read a efw books first!!!

you usually can, usually the fact that 3 or more of the same suit with consecutive numbers are on the table followed by someone betting large is a good indicator.

He could have flopped a straight flush without it being consequtive numbers though. e.g dealt 3&5, flop of 2,4,6

Has the old casino thread bean nuked and not in the archives? If it has I think I might start a new thread for tips etc..

Uh... Yea

Remind me next time i loose 2 grand to come brag about it on an online forum, because that is something to be showing off about of course.
Showing of that he lost 2grand and it doesnt really effect his income would be willywaving i suppose.

I needed to vent as I can not tell my GF what has happened :D
Surely you both understand that in gambling you win some you lose some, so all that matters is that over time you profit?

If you don't understand that you should, by mathemtical law, lose at least once then you have problems :)

And can all the people stop this "omg you're willy-waving/bragging" crap. Please. Jesus Christ what is wrong with British people and talking about money?

Pack in gambling mate, believe me, it can wreck your life.

Been there, done it & worn the t-shirt until I lost it off my back...... :o

But, hey! Its your money and I'm sure a lot more fun than donating it to charity.... ;)

£40k is a lot to be up by, in the space of 7 months.
If he is telling the truth, then good luck to him.

When i was doing casino bonuses, there is no way that i wouldve gained that much in 7 months. Though i wasnt doing the US casinos.

My question is that if he had won that hand, how much would he have won?

I know how you feel mate, I was playing 3 of a kind and got burned by a straight.
Still, I only lost $0.20 :p

Where do you play, I'm looking for a site to play small hands like that. Just a bit of compeative practice.
