Ok, i missed this post! Impressive. How much time do you have to put in to it to get these kind of returns?

There was a hugh thread in GD about gambling sites, I cant find it now though. IIR some members here made over £10,000.

I spend about 3-5 hours a night playing.

Are these things a scam or not?

I was on VC a while back and getting hands of 18 and 19 and the banker always seemed to have 1 higher than me... Reminded me of the bandits in arcades.

No they are not rigged or scams. All reputable casinos are regulated (normally by PricewaterhouseCoopers).

I have also made in excess of £20k. Some of you really should get your facts right about gambling before you make yourself look silly. Casino gambling like myself and Mik3 have been involved in relies heavily on statistics and strategy which heavily reduces the risk.

Iv allways been intrested in texas holdem for money, how much do you need to start up realistically?

Can you leave a for money game at any time?

No there not.

As I said there was a hugh thread with loads of information, links to gambling information sites - tips, tricks etc. I cant find it now was it deleted?

you usually can, usually the fact that 3 or more of the same suit with consecutive numbers are on the table followed by someone betting large is a good indicator.

That's true, however I'm guessing the OP thought he was bluffing the straight flush - in which case 3 of a kind would be very tempting! I would be very interested to hear how the whole hand played out tho, with regards the betting ;)

He got a straight flush on the flop, You cant see those coming :/

Hang on, so you were going in regardless of the fact that people could have hit the straight, and the flush (and obviously straight flush), all hands better than your eventual 3oak from the FLOP!

No doubt people will have been betting it as well yet you stayed in. Sounds like poor play.

They don't need to be a scam, since the odds are in their favour without them having to break the law.

No matter how good you are, you run the risk of becoming an addict. Then it is very difficult to stop.

I know one guy who used to win a lot at gambling. He was also, earning £120K from his day job, so had the funds to recover from any loss.

He still had to quit in the end after suffering a heart attack. Any more gambling would have killed him.

About 7 months.

I read on esreality.com that some gamers have made over $1M in less than a year from online gambling.

My Uncle is a millionairre thanks to a single poker tournament over in the US, which he went to without telling anybody.

Probably lost more than that over the years though.

But at least he's happy...and lazier than ever now! :D

My little cousin on his return to this country;

"And he only bought me a t-shirt!"

Unfortunatly you are very late with that joke. As it has been done and my retort has also been posted.

There was 2 of us left - He had 2, 5, 7, J, spades. I had 3 9's, the flop was 8 of spade, just unlucky :(

No different from drinking socially and then turning into an alchoholic. Everything has its risks, maybe im lucky but I could walk away tommorow knowing I have made a decent profit and my life (financially) has improved along with it.

OP you're not a financial advisor are you, you seem to live in the same dream world.

Still i expect you really have won 40K ..... not, no way man ..... not in a zillion years........ somehow i dont think so ........ ha, ha ,ha ,ha ,ha ...... there's one born everyday........

Wow, losing so much money with a set when straights and flushes are out is just poor play imho. It's not like you had a full house. Can you post the hand history?

Why don't you stick to the NL $25 tables? That way even if you have a disastrous session you're only going to lose your $25 buy-in & it's very easy to make 15BB/100 on those tables.
