*NEW* 2015 Dell Inspiron 15 - 7559, i7 6700HQ/GTX960M owners thread

Just a heads up, a lot of 7559 owners elsewhere are upgrading their laptop screen to alternative ones due to the likes of the factory fitted BOE / LG screens being somewhat of low quality - and I've also noticed this with my LG screen not being so bright.

I have narrowed down the most popular ones down to the following:

LG LP156WF6 SP B1

Samsung LTN156HL01-102

Samsung LTN156HL06-C01

I am yet due to source a genuine one from a reputable supplier, this is due to a good number of eBay sellers claiming to sell them but then sending out compatible models - the same goes for a couple of specialist companies who operate online too. If any of you are thinking the same as me with regarding to upgrading your screen and are able to source a genuine one, please give us the heads up :)

Many thanks - Liam.

Anyone who has installed a Killer AC 1535 wifi card, can you confirm that it fits without any trouble? Also does it look like this.

No Hotlinking and competitors, please re-read the FAQ.

Would be really interested in this, do let us know if you find somewhere reputable!

In a previous life I used to buy a lot of laptop parts from "notebookspares" (Rolta IT) on eBay. They are based out West London and usually can get what you as for, but this was a few years ago.

Those that think the screen is a tad dim, have you tried notching the brightness up in the Intel driver control panel? Obviously not going to help those with light bleed

Can't say I have this with my LG I have it turned down two notches otherwise it's too bright for me. It does not go as max bright as my G752 did but I find it more than bright enough tbh...

Apart from the card pictured having the metal cover removed, it looks identical to my Killer AC 1535 that I fitted to my 7559.

Your best bet for the time being is trawling eBay and locating a seller who has got one that has recently been stripped out of a new laptop - I did this last night, bit the bullet and purchased the LP156WF6 SPB1 for £42 delivered - I will advise when it arrives and once fitted to see how it looks.

Obviously make sure that the seller in question has got detailed photos showing the screen with the correct part / model numbers.

I've RMAd mine, for both the loose/rattling touchpad (seems to be a thing with Dell laptops in general from my googling) and the bad backlight bleed. Hopefully they'll read the stuff I wrote in the RMA and attempt to acquire a non-rattling touchpad, LG panel machine!

It's apparent that the LG model that Dell are using in the 7559 (LP156WF6 SPM1 / KFKV0 Dell P/N) is a lower spec model when compared to other laptops out there using the more premium LG LP156WF6 SPB1 / Samsung LTN156HL01-102 screens.

Do let us know how you get on. You're just going to replace yourself? I'm assuming that would void the warranty?

Will do. I can imagine that it would void the warranty, but I have changed laptop screens in the past so I'm more than willing to carry it out again myself.

Well the new LG LP156WF6 SPB1 screen arrived today and it indeed looks like the real deal, with the correct part numbers & labels present. Despite it being removed from another new working laptop the seller was stripping down, it still looks brand new.

Hopefully I will get around to fitting it by Friday.

Hi all,
Im looking to buy a laptop and was wondering how these dell laptops compare to the MSI ones, Ive always liked DELL and have had loads of dell monitors over the years,I will be looking to spend around £1000 to £1200 BUT not sure what to get I would also need the laptop to drive a 3440x1440 60hz monitor

So, I'm trying to work out whether I want to get a replacement or just a refund on this. Even though I've RMAd it I'm still using it a little to see if I can get over some of the issues I feel the laptop suffers from.

Can anyone point me toward the fabled touchpad driver that supposedly makes it good? It works, in every way, but it is just horrible. It's got a floaty feeling, as if it carries on a little bit after movement. It makes moving the cursor to things an actual conscious task, as opposed to being something that happens fluidly with no real thought. Is this just how the touchpad is? Have I goofed up somewhere :o?

I'm just using the stock Windows touchpad drivers and it works ok. I don't get any floaty feelings. It's not the greatest touchpad I have used the G751 was better but it does the job when I can't be arsed finding a mouse.....

When I say floaty, I mean it's just a bit innaccurate. Innaccurate enough to mean I actively want to use a mouse over the touchpad, something I don't experience with the other 3/4 laptops I use day in, day out. I'm now using a 3 year old Inspiron 17R 5720, which can't by any means have a top of the range touchpad, and even this has a far, far more pleasant pointing experience! I do understand that compared to other laptops, the 7559 is a good deal in terms of specs:£, but surely they can get something as basic as a touchpad right. Maybe I'm just doing something terribly wrong :p

I got around to fitting the new LG LP156WF6 SPB1 screen very early this morning, here is the side by side comparison below (old vs new);

Straight away upon booting the laptop with the new screen I was presented with slight light bleed on the top corners but this hasn't really put me off. As you can see the changes between the old one and the new one are apparent - as reported elsewhere with this screen model the colors are much more vibrant, and I always felt that with the old screen the colors appeared to look washed out. I can tell that the screen appears somewhat brighter too, though the photos don't really do justice but after a few minutes of use earlier on the brightness difference was noticeable.

If anyone is looking to also swap around screens, the process is fairly straight forward - simply remove the cover under the laptop and carefully disconnect the battery cable. Then the bezel around the screen itself can just carefully be prized apart using a removal tool (I used a slim plastic card), but just be extra careful though as if you try to yank or remove the bezel too hard, you can end up snapping the delicate bezel lugs (sadly this happened to me with two of them, though I think their just support surrounds as after assembling everything back together - the whole of the bezel still clips into place and is still solid with nothing protruding out).

Once the bezel is off, it's simply a case of removing the 4 x tiny screws on all four corners of the screen, once loose then work your way to the back of the screen and carefully remove the screen connector. Swap your old screen out for the new one and re-assembly is simply in reverse to the above.

I'm also contemplating to still sourcing a Samsung LTN156HL01-102 if I still feel the need to once again compare, and see which of the two are better.

Nice work Liam. It's fair to say that if you came from a "normal" low end TN laptop screen (especially the craptacular 1366x769 15.6" variety), you'll be impressed with even a decent BOE screen. Light bleed, however, is not on IMO

Yeah discovering the slight light bleed was a bit concerning but I may just live with it and something else I noticed and an idea that came to mind earlier is that the light bleed may be caused by the fact that I noticed when fitting the screen morning that the top half did have slight resistance when trying to rest it flat against the back of the bezel to screw in (the top outer edge of the screen itself seemed more comfortable to sit upright at around half a centre metre away from the bezel). The only way to make the top of the screen rest against the bezel was to obviously screw it into place.

Perhaps as a result of this, with the top part of the screen being slightly stretched - this is what has caused the top corners to light bleed slightly and I may investigate into this further to eliminate it.
