My advice is get yourself an x1900xt or 1950 pro etc and keep for backup so you can still have a semi decent level of gaming during upgrades. The gt price is going to tumble before xmas as no doubt many good deals for the g92 gts will be around too.

I expect they'll drop a few quid, but tumble? Very much doubt it. Be interesting to see how it all pans out anyhow :)

The GT price will not tumble. All that will happen is that Retailers will stop overinflating the prices. Expect them to be 140-160 quid for the forseeable future and 200+ for the GTS.

What makes me laugh is that people knew full well that the prices on the GT were inflated, but they still payed it knowing full well the GTS is on the horizon for not much more.
As for inflated pre order prices, meh.

gt prices are still inflated, ocuk's pny and point of view were £170 inc vat, now they are charging £182 inc vat, they are taking us for a ride!

this has got to be nvidia's worst launch (stock wise) for any card, they moved the launch earlier by 2 weeks so they could beat ati but this has given them a bad name now, they have done more harm than good, they should have launched this card 3 weeks later so that every retailer could have plenty of stock on launch day.

i think exactly the same will happen for the gts too so dont expect decent prices on either card for 2months.

We just have to wait and see. Obviously there is no news, yet! If there was some offical news/specs regarding release you know someone from OcUK would have posted in this thread and have them on the website to pre-order at crazy prices :D

Thats the current G80's but with a few more Sp's than the normal GTS's.

The new new G92 GTS has even more SP's and should be a lot faster.

Yeah but you usually get a little bit more than what we've had so far.. especially with the latest launch projections only just over a couple of weeks away!

Normally Gibbo or someone would be furiously benchmarking the things whilst at the same time not telling us anything about their specs! :D

Isn't it good marketing practice to tell the consumer that you're about to release something before you actually release it?

Nope. Look at the GT. If they announced nobody would have bought a GTS leading up to it and plenty of people did on here and elsewhere.

And Gibbo not likely to get one until a couple of days before launch so that's a fortnight away.

And the GT didn't really start getting leaked with useful info till the last week and especially the last couple of days. Rumours, odd pictures of the new GTS is exactly where we were at this time with the GT

The nearer this is to £200 than £250 the more likely Ill buy it...

Can anyone perhaps extrapolate the kind of performance to expect and from there see what other cards ballparks it lands into...

Just worried that getting the new GTS will not help me one bit over the new GT since I have a Opty 165 @ 2.4Ghz - thoughts?

Some more news, unfortunately more of the same and nothing really new but mentioning anyway:

Fudzilla said:
Nvidia will launch a faster version of the G92, D8P this year and according to our sources, Nvidia might announce these cards in less than two weeks time.

Our sources are confident that the announcement will take place after the 3rd of December, and if we are right, it should be about a week later.

Nvidia managed to ship some significant numbers of G92 based cards in the UK, but the rest of the market still suffers from a lack of these cards. Since the new card is based on the same chip, the shortage won’t get any better and this might be the final nail in the coffin for the Geforce 8800 GTX / Ultra sales, as these cards has every chance to be faster in many cases.

Nvidia desperately needs D8E which is a card powered by two G92 chips and this baby is scheduled for a Q1 announcement.

I really hope they will announce some stuff monday or it'll be a disappointment :(

Isn't Fudzilla saying the annoucemnet is going to be a week after the 3rd December as in the 10th?

Also latest rumours detail these cards no coming out until the 12th December so I guess NDA's will be in force till then just like the GT.

GeForce 8800GTS 512MB hits our labs.

Nvidia are set to launch their revamped GeForce 8800GTS with 512MB on December 11 but we have already heard that it will begin selling much earlier than that – up to one week before.

Since it is not in fact a brand new launch but a revision of an existing product, Nvidia will not try to make much of a deal out of the launch - at least on the surface.

We already have a brand new 8800GTS 512MB in our labs which arrived early last week and before anybody asks, we are not going to say who sent it (so save your time and do not bother asking!) but the good news for our readers is that we do have it, we are testing it and putting it through the usual GPU testing paces and our opinions are being thought out.

Here are some exclusive shots of the reference style 8800GTS 512MB...
