do we know if these are going to be any longer then the current GTS cards as they just fitted in my case?

Same length. :p

so............. the main difference is; higher stock freq's, though overclocked GT's are surpassing these already, and 16 more stream's. and double depth cooler.
Damn........... in a fix now. was hoping for more from the GTS. my current GTS is about to be replaced........... but by what!!! ARGH!

if the rumour is correct about 24 ROP's it will smoke the old GTS and, i'm going out on a limb here :), i reckon 20-25% faster than the GT.

i don't think NV will bother releasing a card only marginally faster than a GT....how are they going to sell them exactly?

and at what price ?

it needs to find it's place in the market

as it seems it will effectively make the current GTX & Ultra obsolete !!

how on earth can they justify selling the old GTX card beyond dec 3rd

the prices now have to fall into line with the new crop of 8800's

i would presume that production has already stopped for GTX's now.. certainly not much availability in the channel...

they have moved onto a new smaller die process now.

The only difference in essence is the extra 16 SP after we clock them?

16 -> 24 ROPs or maybe 20

it must have more than the GT's 16, otherwise where is the performance going to come from? just some more SP? i doubt it

with the impovements they made with the compression algorithms it made ground on the GTX even after having 8 ROP's cut

a GT with 24 ROP's and 128 SP's would be a meaty card indeed.

512mb of RAM :(

I know RAM is expensive and it seems there are cheaper was to make the card faster but I just hate it how they seem to go forward in some aspects and then back in others, I know it isn't a top end card but still...

This is also why i don't think we will see a GTX. The G92 chip doesn't seem to look to be able to handle a larger memory int.

Im not so sure. The NVidia ROPs so far are divided into partitions of 4 each, each one connected to a 64-bit memory channel.

8800GTX > 6 of 4, 6x64 = 384bit
8800GTS 640/320 > 5 of 4, 5x64 = 320bit
8800GT > 4 of 4, 4x64 = 256bit

Unless they've changed something in the basic architecture?

Anyonere else here in the same boat as me which is just enjoying the competition and great cards coming out whilst currently owning a crap card!? :) Just waiting to see a few prices drop over the next few weeks and then I will pounce. Nice upgrade from an x800 GTO2 :)
