New Build

I just had an idea. You said in your opening post that you wanted to future proof as much as possible SO why don't you leave out all the extra cables for the time being and use the extra money to get an i7 ?

+1 for the suggestion. Could even ask someone like davido_labido* to make custom braided cables for you later on with more variation than just plain orange. The variations (e.g. orange, white, black and grey) really take the braids to another level.

I guess if I'm going for the H80, best to make the sp120 a dual pack instead of single (Single as there for the h60) and i'll need pwm sp120's now too?

By which point, you're better off going for the H105, especially since you're going to be putting aesthetics on the backburner for now:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Hydro H105 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW ) £93.95

The 120/140mm rads don't come close to the 240+'s. You'll have considerably better temps for overclocking and/or silence (fans won't need to run as fast, except when you need them to).

Thanks, will take a look at link when on laptop tomorrow. Looking into a spec now cutting out as much ascetics as possible.

Shame the Vulcan is out of stock right now, especially as its same price as slower ram i have in my spec. will keep my eyes peeled!

Adding that is just raising my price point even further. Argh. Will it fit in the 300r too?

Thanks mate, makes sense. Cut back on ascetics for now and get the system setup. At least i'll know what cables I need then too!

Isn't i7 overkill for gaming though? I guess if I'm going for the H80, best to make the sp120 a dual pack instead of single (Single as there for the h60) and i'll need pwm sp120's now too?

The i7 is probably not going to make much difference over an i5 at the moment, but some games such as BF4 I believe are starting to use Hyperthreading. If you can fit in an i7 without sacrificing any other components then it makes sense.

Looking at the pictures of the H80i it looks like they are 3 pin fans. I would check with Customer Services in the morning providing nobody else answers in the mean time.

The H80i does have dual fans, although you could run it with just one fan 'pushing' I don't know how much temp difference push/pull would offer. I would probably just fit the one fan to start with and see how it goes.

No mate.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Hydro H80i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler £71.99
1 x Corsair SP120 Quiet Series High Pressure Low Noise - Dual Pack (CO-9050006-WW) £25.99
Total : £97.99

See? Cheaper to get the H105 and stick with its stock fans (just for now if you like), than to get the H80i and dual SP120's. :)

EDIT: Thanks Stulid. So H105 not officially supported on the 300R... but the H100i would fit.

As for the ram, your diss'in the boards rep without feeding it quick RAM lol.

Ha, will email OCUK tomorrow and see if they have an ETA on the faster vulcan.

H100i looks tight and it's getting on the large side for me. Thanks for suggesting though.

i5 to keep costs down I think, but thanks. I like the idea of h80i with 1 fan and seeing how it goes. Will email OCUK tomorrow and ask if they now if the pam SP120s will work with it.

Thanks again chaps. Will probe spec another build tomorrow... thanks for all your patience and help!

Thanks mate - just the last few niggles and my budget has already been stretched by £200 ha. Think i'm going to do a build and then make it look fancy as phase 2 at a later date. Should help with costs then.

I've just posted on the customer service forum aboutt PWM SP120s and the H80i and also questioned when the faster RAM is coming into stock so hopefully can order this weekend :)

Will posted an updated build just before ordering as usual.

Nice one,

So i've stripped the build down now to parts I want and at a later stage I will work on how it looks (orange cables, modding fan ring colour etc). What do you all think before i FINNALY hit the purchase button:

I've went for the non clocked GPU to save costs further so hopefully it's not hard to OC myself. Anyone got input on this?

Nice one

Im going to add the 140 in the front mate so 2 intakes (alongside 1 140 that comes with case) and the other 120 will go in the roof as an exhaust. Speaking of which, i might delete the 120 and use the 120 in roof that comes with case as H80 will be replacing that :)

Im just trying to improve airflow really - not sure if its needed but can't be a bad thing in theory? Also gives me the chance to add more Orange in future when I spray paint the orange rings.

Just like to say a big thanks to everyone. Build now ordered :) Last minute change in that I decided to not order the extra fans - can see how I do without them and they can be purchased on phase 2 of 'making case look pretty' :)

Look out for my project log soon!

Oh balls i presumed motherboard had wifi and it doesn't, i only thought of checking after i ordered... Naturally. Thought it was standard on motherboards nowadays especially at this price point.

Network card it is i guess
