I'm not selling it because I'm using it for my M1730 when it comes
There shouldn't be much size difference compared to the M1710 (except thickness). Looking at the laptop from the front with the lid closed, there should be about 2 inches of depth and 4 inches width in the pouch section of the Targus. You can also fit a razer exact mat (very big) router with a big box, mouse, charger, 50 CD wallet, phone, hat and maby 200 cigarettes in there.

I got a samsung and it has horizontal banding problems if you open a word document (white screen) it has feint horizontal lines across the top third of the screen it also bands real bad on the grey in the vista sidebar all down the screen I didnt notice it at first so not sure if its just got worse in the last hour?? Not happy before i call dell in the morning i will try some new drivers but im not hopefull!

I got the samsung and the backlight bleed is fairly obvious when it boots up but is no worse than my pebble on the desktop. These forums look an odd colour as well, so I think it needs some calibration.
@ Hugest:- I dont have any noticable banding but will check again tonight, since ours are obviously from the same batch. If you arent happy with it, phone Dell immediately and ask for a replacement.

Slight Panic over lol Rebooted after tweaking a few things and the real bad banding dissapeared There is still slight banding on screens that have gradual colour changes for example a screen that starts dark blue at top to light at the bottom with a gradual change in colour shows slight banding I can make out horizontal lines banding across the screen if I look closely. If I look really closely I can just make it out on the grey part of the vista start menu. On flat colours , video and games it looks great. The screen is excellent apart from that though so not sure what to do? Its nowhere near as bad as at first and it has no dead pixels so maybe I will just phone dell and get some money off haha
Also for you guys that got RAID are your drives the same?? as my two raid drives are different drives!! Ones a Hitachi and the other is a seagate momentus

After my intial panic im pretty pleased with the machine. Even With all the Dell bloatware on it it seems just as fast in windows as my old heavily overclocked C2D Desktop system. I Was Just playing Bioshock at 1920x1200 and it seemed faster than my old desktop system (8800GTX) did at 1376x768
3DMARK06 gave me about 11,500 at 1280x1024 not too bad for a laptop!!
I am not sure if i will instal vista x64 yet I know I should really as I opted for the 4GB of ram but i installed sp1 and everything is running well on 32 bit.
I recommend the 174.31 graphics drivers on the dell site as I tried some newer ones 174.74 from laptopvideo2go and these were randomly crashing with a rundll32 error on boot.
Brok did you check your hard drives are they the same?

That's good.
It means the chances of both drives dying at the same time are lowered as they are from different manufacturers. However, we're using raid 0 so that advantage is made mute as any drive in the array that dies results in total loss of data.
Spent the past day or two going over some games and cad work, my god
this thing slaughters my old m1730, it's much more stable too. (old m1730, would bsod, crash, hang and go to a blank for nearly everything.) Have tweaked the drivers and power saving features as well so It now pulls a respectable 2 hours on battery, considering the power it packs, that's a feat and a half.
Using the 174.74's and they run everything fine, I've had the odd .dll error on bootup but it doesn't seem to change anything.
Where are you finding those drivers on dell's website? The only ones it lists for the M1730 that I can see are the ones it came with (167.55 or so)?

if u look on the dell website where the 167 driver is if you scroll down the page theres a thing about dell rapid driver deployment or something like that they are the 174.31's if you want to play with newer drivers you need to goto laptopvideo2go.com you need to download the drivers and the modded inf for each driver set fairly straight forward the instructions can be found on the site.

Got mine delivered yesterday, wow this thing is good. The only gripe I have about it is the colours look extremely dull. These forums usually have a close to navy blue, on mine it looks like heavily faded/ close to grey.
