New Dell IPS S2721DGF 165hz gaming monitor

From what i saw, none of the other monitors listed appear to have Freesync premium pro.

Lenovo, LG, HP are FreeSync-compatible - not sure what is a "premium pro" for FreeSync though? Honestly though, at 165Hz G-SYNC/FreeSync is not that necessary as long your video card does not drop too often/too much below 165fps.

The major benefits for me of the dell are the 3 year warranty and the dead pixel policy. That differentiates it from the others immediately for me. However none of it matters if it doesn't get delivered.

Premium pro seems to be about enabling freesync feature while using HDR.
From the AMD website https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/free-sync
AMD freesync
  • Tear free experience
  • Low latency

AMD Freesync Premium
  • At least 120hz refresh rate at minimum FHD resolution
  • Support for low framerate compensation (LFC)
  • Low latency
AMD Freesync Premium Pro
  • At least 120hz refresh rate at minimum FHD resolution
  • Support for low framerate compensation (LFC)
  • Low latency in SDR and HDR
  • Support for HDR with meticulous color and luminance certification

You need to remember we're talking about hdr400 here... which isn't really genuine hdr and is more of a stepping stone demanded by display makers.... no local dimming meaning the contrast that makes hdr 1000 incredible just doesn't apply.... most of the tests of this panel do not rate the her performance at all

What about HDR400 compared to SDR? I'm assuming that if given the option a user is better off using HDR400 over SDR?

If you check the reviews on the panel I'm pretty sure most recommended a better gaming experience and more tunability to offer better results with the hdr off... from ratings.com

"The Dell S2721DGF is a 27 inch, 1440p monitor, with great all-around performance. The IPS panel delivers wide viewing angles, but unfortunately, this comes at the expense of contrast. It has an excellent response time, with very little blur behind fast-moving objects, and it has outstanding low input lag for a responsive gaming experience. It's a versatile monitor, with outstanding ergonomics, great reflection handling, and a high peak brightness in SDR, so glare isn't an issue in a bright room. Although this monitor supports HDR and can display a wide color gamut, it can't get very bright in HDR and has low contrast, so HDR doesn't add much."

Ok wtf, after telling me it's in stock, when I go to check out it says there are none to collect nearby :/

after 2 or 3 days of waiting Currys finally came back and said they would price match.... so helpful now the monitors out of stock! I replied maybe they would like to give me £100 off any of the monitors Currys sell due to them taking so long to answer me! and of course they refused

I believe the main advantage of freesync premium pro is low framerate compensation. Monitors have a minimum frame/refresh rate that freesync will work at, usually it's around 40 fps/40 hz.

With freesync premium pro if your frames drop below 40 the monitor will start doubling frames so if you were to drop to 30fps rather than disabling freesysnc the monitor would output every frame twice so even though your frames are low the monitor would be running at 60 hz and freesync would continue to work.

Edit: my mistake, non pro has that feature too

Ha! It won't turn up. Guaranteed.

Hello everyone,

I have ordered the Dell S2721DGFA and my estimated delivery date is 18th Nov, but I don’t have any date on my order email.

I have read today that MSI is going to update certain monitors to enable downscaling from 4k to 2k. Since PS5 does not support 2k, this is a nice addition. Any idea what are the requirements to achieve this? Any chance for the Dell S2721DGFA to support this through a software update in the future?

What do you think about the Dell S3220DGF? Is it worth getting for about £300? Or second Dell S2721DGFA would be better for similar price? I will use the monitor mainly for programming (websites/applications/games/3D graphics). I will also play non-competitive games, I’ll play Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs, Forza… games where the input lag is not that important.

If Dell actually come through with these orders, it's gotta be the Dell for me. £280 is an unbelievable price for these, potentially £252 with the extra 10% 'order delayed' discount is plain bonkers.

Looks like Hardware Unboxed's new favourite 1440p is an MSI offering:

Anyone tempted?

Based on this review it looks somewhat better monitor compared to the Dell mostly because of a better contrast (1070:1 vs 857:1) and much wider color gamut. Only USB 2.0 and G-Sync compatible only, so no FreeSync. The design on both is nice.

Question is about the price - and I think MSI will be more expensive.

Isn't the ROG XG279Q a better monitor than the dell?

Price aside, what is the best 27" 1440p high refresh Gsync IPS monitor?
