New essential Android apps thread

Got a note 4 and recently installed pushbullet.

My calendar of choice is acalendar and i sync Ms Outlook on pc via it using my gmail account. When i get desktop notifications, I get a popup for both acalendar (which i want) and also from s-planner (which i don't).

I've tried unticking my gmail account from s-planner's settings but that also removes it from acalendar.

Also doesn't appear s-planner can be uninstalled (unrooted) or disabled in the app manager.

Anyone have a solution to this?

Thanks

Thanks, only use trusted sites for apps - so you've answered that.

So just something like CCleaner to clear out rubbish every now and then ?

Not sure what to install on my new phone to keep it 'unbloated ' and running fine.

I run ccleaner once in a blue moon, but most of what it cleans is RAM which is pointless, but it also cleans app cache which is easier than manually cleaning app cache app by app in androids app manager.

Was using the ISS onLive app, and the moon started coming into view. Then for some reason they changed the camera view :(

Another one I found in the grabs folder

That ISS onLive app looks good, will have to download it.

Anyone else not getting Skype notifications when someone messages you? Mine hasn't been, although it has before. So now I've enabled 'show skype as an ongoing notification' to see if that works better.

I grabbed Lara Croft Go after being made aware of it from the Console forum, and also enjoying Hitman Go.

Its really good. Seems to have borrowed a lot of style from Monument Valley but has the gameplay and challenges like Hitman. It works really well as a casual mobile game.

QuickPic is now owned by Cheetah Mobile: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder

Android Police has an article but it seems the URL contains a naughty word :p.

Personally don't like this move. I find the rest of the CM apps a bit... bloated. Granted Clean Master can be handy but there's something about it that puts me off. Guess I'll start looking for an alternative gallery app.

I loved using Quickpic but since I got my new phone and updated it to Android 5 I have been using the gallery software and found it good enough.

Just had a look about what the fuss was with Cheetah Mobile as I have a few apps installed from them that I have found okay to use - such as battery doctor.

Noticed an announcement on the Amazon homepage about their new app called Amazon Underground.

Essentially it is the same as the Amazon shopping app, except they are apparently giving away premium apps for free, including apps which normally have in-game purchases.

Haven't had much opportunity to try it out and you need to download the APK direct from Amazon.

Battery Doctor? Seriously?

A (very) quick Google for Cheetah Mobile returns a link to Android Police (article contains a sweary, so can't post) about exactly why users are appalled.

I've just done a backup so I've got the APK so I can continue using the current version if I want.

If anything Battery Doctor is more of a placebo effect. The best app I found to save battery is Amplify, but that requires Xposed. Android M will have Doze anyway which will do the same thing as Amplify, no need for battery saving apps.
