New essential Android apps thread

The button is still there but only for videos that are not HDR. This is a software bug but that needs Samsung to update things to detect the new YouTube server side support for HDR video I bet.

Local video players all have support to crop to fill the full screen however.

I have a folder full of HDR 4K demo videos which crop without stretching perfectly fine in the standard video player. Likewise in MX Player, but without HDR support of course.

I think there's some crossed wires here.

The button is available for normal and HDR videos on the youtube app however I dont have the option to stretch, only fit or crop. This is for both standard and HDR video.

Indeed this is what we have been discussing. HDR is now detected automatically and 'HDR' resolutions are available in the stream quality menu. Stretch is gone however.

Anyway, it's only a minor point. the retina-burning brightness is more of an issue when you wan to bring a menu up and change something.

Noticed that as well now, doesn't help if you're watching it in the dark. Bug or feature... no idea with Google :p.

Looks like V30 has been added to the list, and oddly enough, even the Pixel: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...ck-option-for-some-galaxy-s8-and-note8-users/

Does the Pixel even have a HDR screen?

EDIT: Wait you can use TomTom speed cameras on top of Google Maps? Guess I should give that a try :p.

I've realised I'm using 3 apps to find my phone - Samsung, Google and Cerberus.

Does anyone have a preference? Is there any harm in leaving all 3 on? :p

I don't think I've mentioned this app (one of my own) but I recently uploaded quite a large update and I'm rather pleased with how the app is now.

Inspired by the app 'Regularly' which is no longer being developed.

Helps you keep track of those recurring tasks that might not have a set day or date to be done. I have a SIM card I need to use a 'paid event' every 6 months for it to stay free. I can plot that with this app.

Maybe you have an old friend you want to call once a month, Regular Reminders will help you remember to do this.

Perhaps you want to oil your bike chain every 3 months? It could be you want a reminder to get your dental checkup done every 6 months.

With a recent update you can now add a one off event, set the created date to whenever it's due and be reminded with your other notifications when it's overdue.

App features -
- As many reminders, to whatever schedule you want
- Colour coded based on early/lateness
- Individually decide if the reminder should warrant a notification
- Set your notification time
- Add one off events
- Sync reminders through your Google account to allow swapping or multiple devices
- Import and Export data to your SD Card

It's free and ad free because my motivation for this app has kinda been my motivation to learn to code for Android as one of my favourite apps 'Regularly' stopped getting updates around 4½ years ago.

As always, happy to hear your feedback if anyone gives it a try :)

No reason othe
Can you clarify? I don't really understand what you are trying to sort if it isn't the apps list you are trying to sort? What do you have against installing an app that makes your life easier? The app doesn't use any extra resources, there are only positives.
No reason other than installing more on my handset to fix what I would expect to already be there like the phone book organisation as it's fixed to names and I can't change that, just an observation from my N5x which already has that feature ....

ffs. i turned off notifications for barclays app as the constant notification saying contactless payments was enabled bugged me. all well and good i thought. upgrade to android Oreo, and now ANDROID is giving a constant notification telling me that Barclays is running in the background. no way to swipe away, no way to say get the **** away from me and stop telling me. so now what do i do?

also still hating how bluetooth is dealt with by android. anyone know of an app that will better deal with bluetooth? for instance. i'm connected to my bt headset while i'm working which plays my audible. i want to also connect to my van bt while i'm in there. so i select that to be connected to too, go to play audible, but it continues to play out my headset. i have to disconnect my headset, connect to the van first, then the headset to get it the right way around. there's no way within the phone to say send this audio to that, and this audio to that.

it also annoys me how i have 7 devices paired with on my phone. the quick settings only show me 5. now the 5 most recent just 5 random ones. so i am often having to go to the full settings to find the device i want to reconnect to that was only connected with 5 minutes ago. the list is also moving. i have to search for the one i want to connect to as it moves each time. even worse it moves when you go to connect to it. so lets say i go to the full bluetooth settings to find the device i want. this will make it automatically start trying to connect to one of the devices. lets say it tries to connect to what's in position 4. what i want is in position 2. so i click position 2 to make that try to connect next, however 4 now jumps to position 1 while it tries to connect, moving 2 to position 3. i've accidentally clicked what moved from position 1 down to 2, so now that's queued to try and connect next. it's such a rubbish way to deal with bluetooth and although it may seem silly, i deal with this many times a day.

How to remove “Apps running in background” notification on Android Oreo

Hi guys,

Think I asked for this before but drew a blank; I'm after a TV show reminder? Something that lets me know/adds a reminder to my calendar to let me know when the next episode/season starts?

This week alone I've missed the return of South Park/Fear the Walking Dead... and they say Nurses have it tough! :D

Thanks.

If that's the case, how have you 'missed' them?

Personally I use TV Show Favs. I have a widget showing my ToDo list, so when a show (or even episode) re-appears on the todo list, I know I've something to watch. If you're not watching live, a notification saying it's coming soon seems a little much to me.

missed to download them on release day, not rocket science :p

Erm... okay. If that's how you use the word 'missed'. :)

I would suggest - http://showrss.info and then, well, I might not be allowed to explain on here so I'll leave you to sort it out from there. Trust me if you can't see how it can be automated though.
