New Gaming Rig Advice..

What's the spec?

And how old is the PSU? (But looks in good nic)

And yes, that cooler is better than stock - it's a budget cooler but performs well for the money. My main issue is that I think they still use pushpin fittings :/

It's actually not as bad of a rig as I thought, he has 16gb of RAM (4x4gb) 1600mhz, the PSU is what you see, it replaced the old one about 2 years ago ish?

He has some sort of SSD and HDD but haven't had time to have a proper look what exactly they are yet.

An i3 processor I think (from memory) and a graphics card which I haven't a clue what make it is, it's very small.

Well if the PSU is working you could confirm if the MB as 99% at fault.

Taking out a PSU should be childs play for you now.

If it posts - nick his PSU. :)

Any good?

Just tried brothers PSU on my motherboard, the same outcome so definitely must be the motherboard now right?

Looks like my brother's PSU is ok going off this.

Boot up from where?

Yep, looks almost certainly like the MB - confused as to why it won't access the backup BIOS. I may have a further investigation later tonight.

Your brother's rig - if it gets to the BIOS, it could very well be the SSD. Doesn;t need the OS to test - as you know now :)

Only trouble is - if it boots you may lose a sale ;)

Is it meant to boot in to the backup bios even if the motherboard is faulty?

Will give it a go now.
Hang on - worried we're at cross purposes.

Which rig are you talking about? to both statements

Yep looks like it was the SSD.

Hold down delete and see f you can get into the BIOS. Take a look around then shut down.

SSD could just need a reformat/firmware update would help - but probably borked.

Finally a BIOS! Not the one we wanted though unfortunately. must have been the SSD then like you said.

Anything I should while I'm on it?

You could run memtest - if you wanted to check the memory stability.

But if you wanted a working computer while you wait for yours - you could stick in an HDD and install an OS and i suspect you'll have a computer to play with again.

Your brother should have posted on here :)

He's only young and expects me to do everything for him so no chance of that :D

He bought this computer off my mate who bought it off someone else so it's had a few owners!

He still hasn't given me a definitive answer if he wants my pc or not so still in limbo on if I'm buying this motherboard or not.

His memory is running at 1333mhz instead of 1600. Not sure how to access memtest?

It all depends on what he says. If he does want to buy it I'll go Ryzen. If not I'll probably just buy it and stick with what I have for a bit... Maybe.
