You need to get a screwdriver - reasonable size head that's clean (sounds ominous )

Just behind the F-Panel Header (where all your wires for the case plug in) - you'll see 2 pins sticking up with the words CLR_CMOS written behind them.

With the PC unplugged and depleted of power (press power switch when off) - then touch the 2 pins together (shorting) for a few seconds.

Then plug everything back in, and switch on - go to BIOS and load factory defaults - save and exit.

Shall I put the new RAM back in while I'm at it or do I have to wait until I've reset the BIOS?

Nope, still not booting.

On the 3rd boot try it goes to this screen

Then just keeps restarting until it's on the 3rd try again and gets to that screen.

Right the PC has stayed on, on the 3rd reset but now I have no picture...

Well the PC isn't restarting, it's stayed on but I have nothing on my screen, the monitor isn't waking up to anything as if there is no signal.

Well, that's annoying.

Turn off, unplug and remove one stick from DDR3_2.

Then clear the CMOS again - same procedure.

Plug back in and switch on - let it try and boot.

I only currently have one stick plugged in.

When it stayed on but no picture I had it plugged in DDR3. Just moved it to DDR1 and now it's just restarting all the time again getting as far as that screen I posted further up, but this time on the second restart not the third.

No sorry, when it stayed on it was in ddr3-3, now I've plugged it in ddr3-1 and it's doing the restart loop but gets to that screen on 2nd restart.

Wouldn't of even bothered changing the RAM if I knew it was going to do this haha. Thought it was a simple switch.

Just tried putting it back in DDR3_3 and it's just doing the same as DDR3_1 now. Think there's a chance I haven't quite got the CMOS thing right even though I've tried to do it 5 times, can't quite see if they are making a big enough connection.

You should only have 2 pins - directly behind the F-Panel header - and you need to touch both at the same time for a few seconds. If necessary we may have to remove the battery.

Yeah I've been pushing them towards each other to make them touch, is that correct? Got one screwdriver pushing one and another pushing the other till they meet in the middle.. atleast I think they are connecting.

You touch the pins together via a single screwdriver - that bridges the gap.

You don't physically pull the pins together.

Oh god. When you said touch the pins together to short the fuse I thought you meant push them together...

Worst case scenario is that you've damaged the board - i'm really hoping you haven't. They can take a lot of punishment.

How much force were you applying?

Quite a bit.. I've done it properly this time, I think and still doing the same..

No looks fine. Just obviously one of the pins is bent towards the other a little now as I tried to push them together...

When you say damaged the motherboard, it would be just the CMOS reset effected right? And yep I've tried that, this so frustrating

You can use a screwdriver/credit card to hold the retaining spring back - but I'm hesitant to suggest it.

I can't seem to budge it. How much pressure can it take? Can't lodge anything under it no?
