New Gaming Rig Advice..

Have you bought anything else?

/Checks...

Laptop? That would be a bit of an educated guess as rarely buy them - will try and assess but will need specific model. For example I have an IPS screen and higher resolution on my laptop and would affect resale price...

Good game choices (Shadow of Mordor is a great game - especially if you enjoyed the batman games) - I'm still picking my Steam buys. I usually buy loads and play only 1 :/ (currently playing Southpark Stick of Truth).

Still, thinking of the Dell?

It was custom built one so don't think it has a specific model number. Yeah looking forward to giving them all a go, want to get Witcher 3 I think for sure. I've played Stick Of Truth, so funny!

I am, but it's going to have to wait a good while!

I've got a question regarding afterburner, it's showing 1683 base and a 5508 boost....

I would need the spec - but it sounds a premium piece of kit?

Are you selling as you need the cash or not using it? I couldn't manage without my laptop...

Will be worth the wait.

Well the base clock makes sense but the boost number is nuts (would be great).

Or are you saying your GPU boost is lower than expected and your mem clock is higher than expected?

Have you attempted to clock the card?

It's the Gaming X plus Plec.

I'll get you the specs later.

Just played Max Payne 3, for a game that came out 5 years a go on Ultra I'm not reaching the 144FPS.. is that concerning?

Looks fine:

1822 MHz / 1683 MHz (Gaming Mode)
11010 MHz (Gaming / Silent)

It's a Rockstar game - be grateful for what you get :)

Presuming you're getting a decent FPS?

I can run a comparison for you later tonight - pretty sure I bought it in a past Steam sale..

Getting between 90-130fps so shouldn't moan but just seeing as it came out in 2012 expected the full 144. Yeah that would be great.

I don't know if I've put it in Gaming Mode, I haven't touched anything, do you suggest I do?

Sounds about right with everything maxed/ULTRA.

No need while you're running a 1080P monitor.

When you eventually get the 1440p G-Sync - I would then run OC mode if your temps are good?

Beady, have you updated to the F7 BIOS including the AGESA 1.0.0.6?

If not i would do this as there's a good chance you'll finally hit 3200MHz - as the cheaper branded 3000MHz sticks are now hitting 2933MHz.

Laptop specs.

What is AGESA?
AMD Generic Encapsulated Software Architecture (AGESA), is a bootstrap protocol by which system devices on AMD64-architecture mainboards are initialized. The AGESA software in the BIOS of such mainboards is responsible for the initialization of the processor cores, memory, and the HyperTransport controller.

It allows the BIOS to talk/initiate with the above components - it's why it has such a big impact on the memory stability and compatibility.

Sorry, Beady, i wouldn't know where to begin pricing that - especially as it's essentially a 13.3" gaming laptop with an IPS screen (nice bit of kit).

I would perhaps value it relatively high and have a figure in your head that you're willing to accept as it's quite a niche size/spec.

I've got a 13.3" laptop i carry in a bag for 'just in case' computing - but it's a essentially a Word/Excel machine with a decent display - worthless to anyone else. My 15.4" and 17" laptops are a newer spec than yours but i would even have trouble putting a price on those and i only bought them 14 months ago. Laptops are a means to end for me - i buy/research them as and when i need one and then use them until i've exhausted them and pass them on.

As for 'what' starting (high) price you should start at(?) - you would need to search out similar specced/size laptops for sale - but that will be a task in itself as i can't imagine many come up to compare (may be wrong).

Sorry i couldn't be more help.

That's fine Plec. Thanks for looking. Will have to just look around and find something to compare it against.

I have updated BIOS to F7 and tried 3200 but it still does a boot loop :(

Been trying to get it to 3200 but just won't have it still. Any ideas Plec?
Surprised - but it can happen unfortunately.

I've done other builds similar to yours - almost the exact same spec - one hit 3200MHz with the new F7 Official and the other hit it with the F6. But no two sticks/sets are the same so it's always a bit of lottery especially with early formats.

We could play with the timings, tweak voltages slightly - but i would be tempted to wait as your system is rock solid and you've been relatively lucky hitting 3000MHz straight out the box (for 2 months) - some people are only now experiencing that.

The speed gains are surprisingly good for only 200MHz - so we will push for it if the next update doesn't help. But stability is always king and i've read too many threads where members are having a torrid time trying to get their system stable for the sake of 200MHz. Which is fine if you know what you're doing but perhaps not so wise if you're not familiar with the process and have a perfectly working system that's stable at an already very respectable speed.

Damn that's a shame. Here's hoping that the next update will get to the magic number then!

Setting up a second monitor today, do I just plug it in to the graphics card and it will sort itself out or do I need to change some settings for it to work?

I would hope so - pee'd that it hasn't got there now for you. But, as mentioned, you hit 3000MHz with ease which was a real bonus so early on.

To date your build has been fantastic overall - especially if you were to compare prices now to what you paid back in April/May. Look at the price of the GTX 1070s and memory now :/

Yes, Windows will pick it up on the reboot.

You will have to have a play with 'Display Settings' (Right click the desktop background) and choose the option you want to use - i.e 'Extend these displays' or 'Duplicate these displays'.
