New iPod??

Good money off deal from hotukdeals £20 off the apple store (minimum spend is £235 I think?):

Put the code: ENTMZGJPVJ in at the checkout.

Just got a touch 16gb for £245 with that so it does work on the new iPods :)

hmmm i was thinking about getting a new mp3 player either a ipod class or the new creative zen player, i currently have a 4gb zen microphoto and the sound on it is fantastic and what you guys have said doesnt give the greatest faith in the ipod. I wouldnt want to get a player with a bigger capacity for it to sound worse :(

what should i do?

I don't know for sure but he's probably right, the audio quality is quite likely to suffer as they shrink everything and trying to extend battery life won't help...I wouldn't be suprised to see audio quality has gone down, though I can't prove it...
They're using a crystal dac now, so it should be better, but there's no lineout for an amp .

so sorry to be so stupid but anyone link me towards decent articles that explain the ipod touch a bit better.

also how does the ipod touch enable you to go online - i assume you cannot do this all the time rather when in a hotspot. i don't really get all this wifi business, any chance one of you can explain it to me? do i have to connect through my phone or what? if not how often will i be able to get online and does it cost anything for connection.

sorry and appreciate the help

One big plus for the iPod touch - no external speaker thank god. So sick of seeing (and hearing) people walking around town holding their music phones in the air playing some tinny sounding music (usually Umbrella ella ella this past summer).

Just went into the apple store in London - no ipod touch and none of the new ipods either! Plus they had all of the old ipods on display at the same price - I asked a 'genius' and he said they are cheaper but since the announcement was yesterday they hadnt changed the prices yet..The current 80gb will be £159 apparently - same price as the 80gb 'classic' - oh dear. Im off to some other shops that might think a little more sensibly.;)

It's far from terrible, in my opinion my nano doesn't have as good audio as an old 3rd generation ipod, but I only notice and could subjectively say playing it through my hifi (expensive amp and speakers) pretty loudly. I can't notice any difference really listening through headphones, and I have a pair of westone UM2s (£more than an ipod nano) so I'd say you'd likely be fine whatever you choose.

My personal opinion is that unless you rip all your CDs to lossless and transfer them to your player in that format, then sound quality is irrelevent, yes mayeb the creative is 0.001% better but mp3 isn't the medium to tell really. I have my CDs ripped as lossless and thats what i listen to at home on my hifi but I'm not yet anal enough to want that quality on the go. (if I did I'd be drooling over the 160GB classic though - I'd at 3TB of RAID protected storage for my music at the moment)

I've just ordered a 16GB touch and I'm sure it'll do the perfect job replacing my 4GB nano. I'd have waited for an iphone but I already have a blackberry and can't live without it so I don't want to carry two phones...

Such a rip off - it does not cost £69 to bring an ipod over here.
I'm guessing it's more a tax thing.

I'm so glad the Touch comes out at the end of the month as I go to Florida a few weeks after so I'll get a 16Gb for £70 cheaper than the UK price.

Should pickup a nice case for cheaper too.

Go to the apple website and watch the iPod Touch video, a smug looking man explains it all in great depth.

The iPod touch has a wireless chipset inside it, similar to what you'd find in a laptop. If you have a wireless router at home or in the office you can connect to the Internet through that. Some cafes, pubs and train stations have wireless routers too although you generally have to pay to use these.

Do you guys think the prices of the old ipods will drop at all with this announcement? I'm thinking of going into town tomorrow and seeing if I can blag a discount on an old ipod nano 8GB...

Think anyone is going to do it to get rid of the old stock?

Just ordered a 160GB black iPod Classic :)

Will probably get the iPhone when it's out, so can't really see myself with the Touch (the confusion!) and I need the storage for all my Lossless music.

Good man.

Dunno whether to get the 160Gb or 80Gb.

Gonna work out how much space all my albums will take in apple lossless. 400mb per album?

Thats exactly what I am looking to do. apple in London have dropped the price of their 80gb older gen ipods... to £159, the same as the new gen - which of kind of confusing. They will have to drop this further when they get the 6g ipods in stock (thats my guess) So this is probably the same as the nanos.

I like the idea of the touch, but if i had one i'd be thinking "a bit more money would get me a phone as well...".

I think im gonna stick with my current 60Gb tbh.

That's what I was thinking. I'll wait for the iPhone to come over here, and if it's 3G, I'll get one instead. 16GB isn't really enough for me, but I would love to play with the Touch
