New iPod??

How did you get £50 off?.

Went in and asked if they were doing any deals on the old line of iPods considering the updates and they asked what I wanted and said certainly sir, here's a 4GB nano with £50 the RRP :)

Deal was already on when I went in. Didn't have to haggle or anything!

I am in the apple Regent street shop now - just bought an 80gb classic after telling everyone else not too! Have been reading up on it, the battery life is far better with these models and worth it, the 160gb even more so, as it gives you 7.7 hours of video apparently.

They have 80gb black and 160gb silver ipods on display and for sale here.:)

The Nano looks great and far smaller than it seems from the pictures (smaller and thinner - its tiny!)

Just got back from Bluewater.

The Apple Store has only 160Gb in silver and 80Gb in black at the moment. I bought the black 80Gb :)

I really like the new half screen thingy.

Hehe, i want the exact one! No apple stores down here so have to wait until the common stores get them.

Can anyone report on what using coverflow is like on the classic? I've just used a nano (a chump at work has one). I have to say, they might as well have not bothered. It's slow and laggy and pretty pointless. (Because it's slow and laggy)

I was going to post pictures anyway, but wasn't sure if anyone would be interested!

But anyway here you go:

It's basically the same thickness as the 30Gb 5G so I haven't posted any side shots.

New menu!

New games, a lot nicer and more detailed than the older games, you can save them now too. Only thing is, I can't seem to get any of the games that I downloaded for my 5G onto it.

It doesn't seem to be laggy at all on my classic, only thing is if you scroll through really fast all the album covers don't show straight away.

Mwahahaha :)

I think it's only Apple stores that have it in stock at the moment.

Also, there is a Apple shop opening in Brighton soon, anyone know where and when?

The cover flow isnt laggy per se, the ipod iteslf is a bit laggy, this is most likely because of all the cover art images it is processing all the time now - when navigating, coverflow, whenever. Its ok, not a big deal but it is a little slower than the older gens. Note that this is with a totally full 80gb ipod, with 90% of the tracks having artwork. Coverflow is a nice idea and looks good, I think probably its a bit of a gimmick, as for a way of finding albums its not really very efficient.

It doesnt quite 'feel' as nice as the other gen ipods and the touchwheel isnt as responsive as the past ipods, however it is thinner and I like the new navigation menu - however not radically different. It is still the best mp3 player out there - can see how the others havent caught up yet, I think the Zune II has potential.

Thanks for your responses. It was a nailed on cert I was getting a classic anyway, I just wanted to know about coverflow.

Have they taken the spotlight esque search out?

Controversial.:p
Im just waiting for a certain member to respond. Im guessing that the responce will have either iRiver or Cowon in the first few sentances. :p.

lol - thats in my opinion of course!:p Which specific models would they recommend as an alternative? It be interested to have a look at them. From the models I have looked at none are as small and easy to use as the ipod - but I might have missed some good players?
