** NEW LG MONITORS - INCLUDING 2 EXCLUSIVE TO OCUK!!! **

HI all, I know the LG has a low contrast compaired to other ips monitors but would it have a better contrast and blacks than my samsung TNT 2443 monitors ?

I've had a 2443 previously and whilst the blacks were a bit darker, the LG is vastly superior in its presentation in my opinion.

I ordered an LG 27GL850 which arrived earlier this month, but my panel seems to have quite a lot of IPS glow / back light bleed (Not really sure, since I've never really had this issue before).

It's very apparent next to my other IPS monitor which doesn't seem to suffer from this issue, even though it's a much cheaper panel (AOC 24G2U). I was hoping that I would get used to it somehow, but no matter how I adjust my settings/positioning it always seems to be noticeable.

I'll link some pictures; what do you guys think, is it normal with this monitor?

Even taking the fact its a photo into account, that's far worse than my 8 year old TN panel, and one the worst I have seen on that monitor model...

Would be straight back to OCUK for me, free of charge as I count that as a faulty/not fit for purpose product, you are meant to have "accurate" IPS colors with this product, that is not possible when even on a bright colorful image, you still have one zone clearly different from another. Monitor market is full of overpriced and over hyped HOT HOT garbage. The moment I can get something like an C9 OLED, or even near to its qualities and specs, without fear of burn-in, the monitor market lost me for good!

That is pretty normal for IPS when viewed through a camera. Cameras make IPS glow and backlight bleed look 100 times worse.
Maybe try the settings for the monitor in the thread I created.

Also ... if you use your monitor in a near dark room then IPS was never for you I'm afraid.

One reason I moved away from IPS. Most of them are like this with IPS glow/bleed which ruin the experience. If you use in a bright room with moderate brightness then it’s usually not noticeable. In a dark room then just the glow alone can be very noticeable and distracting especially if you play dark games.

I went to a VA and haven’t looked back. You do get some slight ghosting in some games but nothing particularly noticeable. And blacks are nice and uniform.

Everyone raves about IPS but for gaming I think it is the worst. Even TN doesn’t have this issue and when setup correctly can look good. In games you wouldn’t even notice the difference between the two technologies aside from IPS glow :p.

Every panel technology has its own pros and cons. Even OLED aside from burn isn’t perfect.

Just today’s QA standards unfortunately.

Yeah, I'm still within my acceptance period and sent the images over to support. They said that the glow does seem excessive and asked for me to send it back for testing and possible replacement. I hope that I was just one of the unfortunate few with this issue at such severity.

Just for context to the pictures, the monitors on the sides are both also IPS, significantly cheaper one's at that. They also have some glow, though I never really even noticed before I started looking.

I do actually use a backlight behind the monitor, I think it's actually on in one of the pictures (Though even without it the room is pretty lit up during the day, as I have a huge window just behind the desk), but the 'glow' is still rather noticeable.

I've tried to tweak the settings in accordance with a few different forum posts, lowering the brightness and adjusting contrasts, black stabilisation, colour temps and all that good stuff. I even tried to move the monitor further back and lower my seat too. Some of these definitely help, but the colours on that side of the screen are still washed out, especially when compared to the IPS monitor next to it that doesn't seem to have this issue.

I did consider getting a VA too, actually! They seem to be a little cheaper in addition to the lovely black uniformity, but I thought that this monitor would match nicely with my 2 other IPS monitors.

Maybe I just got lucky with my previous two panels, since the glow never really bothered me before. I only really noticed the adverse effects of IPS on the LG.

Picked up this screen the weekend for £250 ! What a bargain ! 27UL600-W 27" 3840X2160 4K IPS 60Hz
Totally blown away by the performance from it out the Box , really nice colours and calibration was pretty much spot on from a photography point of view. I've owned a 4K Asus monitor before and Hated it and returned it within a day , This monitor is miles ahead ! no light bleed in the corners at all , 4k ULTRA HDR looks amazing on Amazon Prime. Photos have never looked so god dam good , played Pubg and few other games the weekend and wow so much more detail, I'm seeing things I've never seen before. & New G/Sync works perfectly & gaming is smooth.... Best investment this year for me so far and ill 100% be buying more products from LG this year for sure.

For the others of you waiting, I Just recieved a shipping notification for my 27GL850. Ordered on Tuesday 18th. Not a fan of exclusivity or lack of stock, seemlingly only in the UK, but a week wait could have been worse.

Mine also shipped today, order placed on 19th. I was expecting longer wait, so a pleasant surprise.

Have had my 27GL83A-B a few days now, it is a great screen. Funnily enough it detected it as a 27GL850-B in the drivers and OSD although it isn't. Everything looks amazing, I come from a Dell U2711, which was great for colours and that hasn't changed. The main advantage is the input lag and responsiveness of the screen, which are miles ahead.

What would everyone recommend is the better option of these two as a gaming monitor? I quite like the idea of getting a curved ultrawide for gaming (currently have a 1080 24" Asus). Would I be sacrificing loads in getting the 34" other than obviously lower res? I've read that 1440p is more of a problem for reading text over gaming? I'm leaning towards the 34" for the immersiveness but would I be stupid in doing so?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £964.68 (includes shipping: £14.70)

Definitely the 27GL850. I wouldn’t want 2560x1080 on a 34” screen, far too low pixel density.

Cheers for the feedback. I really do appreciate it as I'm not the most knowledgeable other than looking at numbers! Can you think of any other monitors you'd recommend over the LGs? 27GL850 seems by far the best for around the £500 budget?

I think it's a solid monitor for the price.

Sorry to be a pain but what about this one? Seems to be some sacrifices but not as many as the LG curved? I know people have slated AOG but are they really that bad? Considering I'm not a heavy gamer (competitive etc), I mainly play Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Total War offline etc, would a VA panel be OK?

Looks like a decent monitor. It won’t handle motion as well as the LG but it will have better blacks. You’ll likely get some smearing in darker games.

I think im going to go for the LG27GL850.

I currently have the LG 27UK600 4K IPS and want a high refresh rate monitor to go with it. I have always had two different monitors in my dual screen setup, but with these both being LG IPS should colour matching them be easier?

Is this the best 27" ups 1440 monitor there is at the moment?

I've noticed it's also went up another £10 since this morning

IMHO yes but you need to do your own research based on what your needs are. Gaming, Content Creation, Colour accuracy, Type of room you work in etc. etc.
