Sorry I haven't posted my thoughts yet, my internet has been playing up and I'm not sure that I'm ready to give my verdict yet. I've spent the days since I got it fiddling with settings trying to make it look half decent :D I'm thinking that I might have been unlucky and gotten a dodgy panel. It's quite washed out regardless of settings.

Could people that have this monitor check a few things for me? I'm getting a lot of banding on this test regardless of settings.

Also, could people post a photo of an all white screen?
The uniformity of my screen is pretty bad, I have a big bright patch at the bottom middle and it's really distracting while browsing the web.
It's bright white right at the top then dark and then really bright at the bottom, so when vertical scrolling it looks like there's a dark bar across the top of the screen.
I'll post a photo tomorrow.
Been trying to wash it out with brightness settings and hope that I'll get used to it. Is that the luck of the draw, is that the nature of sidelit monitors, or do you think OCUK would honour a replacement if I asked?
I don't know if I was expecting too much, maybe I've been spoilt by my last TN panel as that was nigh on perfect.

Someone sent me a picture of theirs and it goes absolutely vertical, so I do indeed have a faulty one. What an odd thing to be wrong. I will have to get it swapped out, *sigh*. When I look closely at the back of the hinge mechanism I can see its not quite straight.

"By eye" it looks vertical. If you are looking to be picky, it may be slightly tilted back, but barely visible. Not something you would notice unless you were looking for it.

Speak to Samsung IMO. They can probably provide a spec for the hinge.
 
Further TriDef 3D experiences

DoW 2 in 3D is EPIC. :cool: Not sure i'd play it in 2D now TBH!:eek:
BFBC2 is poor.
MW2 is good.
Black Ops (Zombies at least) is good.
Dragon Age 2 Looks amazing! Seriously impressive! :cool: But the cursor is screwed up!:(
L4D2 is good.
Couldn't get Crysis2 running (might be due to the official Dx11 patch i have installed)

The cursor in FPS menus and in Dragon age 2 is annoying. Its all corrupted and does not align with screen postition. Anyone else had this issue?

I spoke to Samsung, and to be honest they didn't really know. They believe it should go vertical. I am not putting a ruler up to this, I can see its a few degrees off straight by eye very easily and I commented on it my first post after I got the monitor as I noticed it straight away. Samsung's own pictures which are on OCs site as well show it perfectly vertical. And this YouTube unboxing video

shows it perfectly vertical as well. You can see as he rotated the camera that it lines up perfectly with the window behind it.

The reason it bothers me is because of the glossy screen. As I sit with the monitor height elevated, it is picking up extra reflections due to that slight tilt that wouldn't be there if it was straight.

Oh dear. Not good. Return it or a "ghetto-fix" of something under the rear "feet" of the base? A correctly sized pair of plastic / rubber pieces could adjust the tilt with little risk.

I don't really want to use a "ghetto-fix" :) with a brand new monitor. I will return it and get it replaced. I found a tell-tell sign that something isn't quite right. If you look at the back of the monitor where the base meets the screen, it is not perfectly straight. In the picture below you can see its a bit further away on the right side than the left, as if its twisted very slightly, probably affecting its movement.

Sidelit monitors can have uniformity issues. But what you describe does not sound very normal. I don't see any banding issues on mine. I think you really need to take a picture to show us so we can see more clearly whats going on. It could be one of the side-lit elements is faulty and not working. Are you connecting via the included Dual-link DVI cable?
 
Could someone try these movies to see how much ghosting they have? These should play in 3D when viewed in full screen without the need for TriDef drivers or 2D to 3D conversion.

Sorry, I can't get a good picture of the banding with my crappy camera.
I think it's normal anyway, I'm more worried about the uniformity and the washed out colours.
Playing a game, everything just blends into one, even videos look awful, there's no definition. I can't get a good picture with my camera.
These are my settings.

brightness 30
contrast 60
shaprness 60
response time fastest
hdmi black level normal
gamma mode 3

but colours look totally washed out. Believe me, I've tried everything combination of settings.

The only way I can make the colours as punchy as my current monitor is to change the hdmi black levels to low and change the gamma mode to 2.
This of course totally ruins the black levels and white saturation though.

are totally indistinguishable from the background

With my settings above the tests come out perfect.

Is it related to 120hz monitors? The LG I tried was the same, totally washed out.
It's my first glossy panel, maybe it's the glossy panel that makes everything looked washed out.
I've got both monitors set up together and the difference is night and day.

I haven't tried such a low brightness setting yet. I just left it on ECO brightness so that it adjusts based on room lighting. I am wondering if the banding starts as the brightness gets low. The default settings show me all shades of black distinguishing even the darkest shades. I can see every shade of grey up until 255 white as well. And the colours look anything but washed out. So clearly we aren't seeing the same thing. I assume that you have installed the specific driver for the monitor and that any colour profiles in Windows you may have had left from the previous monitor have been removed?

I don't think any of this has to do with 120Hz monitors. The uniformity is not great on yours. However I don't think it would be considered faulty either. I think this is luck of the draw.

I am not really sure what to suggest. Unfortunately I am in the process of changing mine out due to a mechanical fault with the monitor pivot. I am a bit nervous now as this one had no stuck pixels and excellent uniformity. I hope I don't replace one problem with another.

i tried display port to start but have reverted to DVI-D and still the same

ive connected the display to the pc via dviD and have a ATI 6870

windows 7,

i installed the display drivers and the tridef software and even updated that

ive setup up the desktop to 120HZ. the 3D is selected to sequential in the monitor menu and its info shows its at 120hz,

but i go to play black ops and it keeps saying " 3D is dislabled, please connect a 3D compatable display"

Not sure if this helps but i launch the game in 3d via the supplied Tridef game launcher desktop icon, then when the game loads, i manually change the screen to 3D in the correct mode and turn on the glasses. Voila! Well it works for me (left/right tho as NV).

Sorry if thats "egg sucking"....;)

no any advice appreciated;)., i tried what you said but for frame sequentail, but does not work,

if i pre select side by side it works a treat, in game etc,

but i dont understand why sequentail doesnt work

could it be my graphics card driver ? im on ATI catalyst 11.3

im off to work now:(

Sounds very similar to what I found. Only with HDMI could I get frame sequential to work. Have you got the right cables to try that at least to prove you can get 3D working?
 
AMD cards should do frame sequential using the display port, if they can't now they will soon when AMD patch it in for this monitor.
