** NEW SAMSUNG ODYSSEY G7/G9 MONITORS 27-49" AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER **

My G9 has visible horizontal scan lines at 240Hz, especially noticeable on red backgrounds/images (and to a lesser extent, blue) and seems to be the worst in the corners of the display (probably due to where the main part of the backlight is).

At 120HZ you can't see the scan lines, but at 240Hz they are noticeable and reds end up appearing more pink as a result. Guess Samsung are pushing the panel right to its limits.

Also one dead pixel (that I've found so far), but there are so many other pixels I don't really mind, close to the top of the screen too and not in the centre.

trying the G7 32 on 980ti (yes I plan to upgrade this really soon) highest refresh rate in windows goes to 144hz not 240hz is that limitation with the 980ti or do I have to do something else , I updated the G7 to the latest Firmware 1005.2 is it me or does the screen doesnt go that bright even with 100 brightness

980ti has display port 1.2 so that answers that
DisplayPort 1.2 supports up to ≈165 Hz at 1440p

another thing I noticed if I have Adaptive sync on I get slight lines flicker on dark parts but goes away if I turn off Adaptive sync no point using it on 980ti because it isnt supported anyway Gsync Compatible cards start support from 10 series Nvidia cards

That's quite a few people noticing a flicker now with adaptive v-sync on, I hope that can be addressed.

Yeah I have to say, I was soooo close to pre ordering the 32 G7, but it seems these new Samsung’s have some issues, and I’d rather see them ironed out first before I commit, pre order promotion pricing or not, quality first!

Besides, I’m building a new PC for first time in years, but waiting for new GPU’s and CPU’s later this year and perhaps Black Friday sales too before I build, right now I would not benefit from this screen as I don’t have the hardware to drive it to high fps, just goes to show how alluring special pricing can be , glad I had some restraint, then saw these issues and made me happy with my choice, those that did buy, I hope you enjoy your screens and have no issues, or get quick fixes from Samsung. My biggest worry is that some of these issues are not firmware related and will never be sorted....

I just pre-ordered a G9 last night, under what conditions does the flicker occur on the G9? All I knew was that it occurs under the conditions where the monitor is in HDR mode, it's at 240Hz AND adaptive sync is on. If that is the only case where it occurs, then I'm happy to run at 120Hz for HDR content. But, if it occurs whenever adaptive sync is on, then I'll probably cancel my order.

Well the guy I quoted a few posts up (uscool) he is getting flicker at 144hz with adaptive sync on but bear in mind that he has a G7, but still a little disconcerting, I was going to preorder a G9 but am holding off now myself and waiting to see if this is going to be addressed.

So I updated my display to the new 1005.2 firmware which the notes are :
- 4K resolution support - Improve picture quality

Strangely enough, setting a custom res to 4k at 60fps... it works, It the monitor will display 4k... So donno whats up with that

I guess they messed up something with there firmware :P

On one hand, we are getting firmware updates, so there is hope.
On other hand, previous gen samsung VA and Dell 32 inch VA (3220dgf?) still have flickering, could be unfixable.

But I keep repeating, at 240hz adaptive sync no longer matters.
Tearing will be minimal and not noticeable, and there are alternative ways to sync. Triple buffer based for one.

Indeed, I've turned off gsync for now, Using Fastest/MBR with low input lag and I've not experienced any tear so am HOPING that samsung can fix this with firmware updates that are due soon. Already on the most up to date firmware but it didn't fix the issue sadly.

Hi guys,

I'm really tempted by the G9 but i'm running an i7 6850k with a gtx 1080 and not sure i'm gonna have the graphical horsepower to run this thing at anywhere near an acceptable frame rate. If I spend on this I'm not gonna have enough change to update my gfx card anytime soon. So do you think it's worth my while or would I be better off with some thing like the G7 which has a lower resolution?

There's a lot of things to consider:
What do you mainly do on your machine for?
What current monitor are you using? Are you using multiple monitors wanting to go to a single monitor setup? (a G7 wouldnt be so bad changing your main monitor - you can always move that monitor down the line) Or are you using a large monitor just wanting an upgrade?
How long does it take for you to accrue the amount of money needed? If it's a long time - then maybe a monitor just isn't the best thing to invest in - if it's shorter then maybe it is something to buy now, while other markets - see GPUs/CPUs develop over the next year or two.

For me, I'm buying the G7 with the mind to buy a new GPU later this year. My next steps will probably then be probably a full upgrade of MOBO CPU MEM and GPU.

The G7 is now doing actual 4K??
