New Shiny GPU's Coming Soon - Ordering Process to guarantee highest queue position

Don't forget to factor in the cost of a divorce.

It would be nice if the shop opened a bit early for forum members but don't think that would be allowed. Not for me though, I wouldn't buy an AIB model anyway.

Why not? Some AIB cards are much quieter than the Founders Edition. The 3090FE and 4090FE had horrible fans that had lots of wobbling issues and were generally louder than they should have been.

Maybe Nvidia will surprise us with a Noctua collaboration on the 5090 FE

Given people complain about the price of high end graphics cards every 2 years, as a matter of interest how much do other "men's" hobbies cost?
I spend a bit too much on fancy board games I almost never have the time to play. I also spent about £4k on a custom made board game table with seating and accessories that I got just before my wedding this year.

I’ve already had to tell the wife what the 5090 will likely cost me as she was estimating a lot lower.

Edit:

Wait you said ‘men’s hobbies’ and not ‘still a little boy hobbies’. My bad.

A number of reasons for me.

I always water cool my GPU so any AIB's added heatsink/fans with their bells and whistles and go faster stripes will just end up in the box and never been seen. That added sprinkle of tat from AIBs usually comes at an added price premium of more than £600 over the FE which is just ridiculous, for me that money could be put to a quality waterblock which will improve it all fronts - cooler, quieter and look a lot better.

Plus, there's always a waterblock made for the FE model which cannot be said for all AIB models.

Problem is normally the AIB cards that have a better & quieter cooler then the FE model also cost a lot more

Yeah I’ve been looking into water cooling. Can’t be bothered with hard tubes, I have Aio for my 9800xd so could just do a water lock for the gpu. Not sure what the simplest solution will be but I should have space easily for a front mounted radiator with 3 x 120mm fans

Fair points, though the problem with water cooling GPU's for me is that the idle noise is high from the pump. Whereas a AIB 4090 (Strix for example) is 0db at idle and even low load (in older games etc).

I’d like an aio to water block solution that would be quiet at idle surely?

Not sure what pumps you've experienced.
I've only used different variants of the D5 since 2008.
This can be heard above my fans if turned up relatively high, but usually I can't hear the pc running at all at idle and turning fans up is quieter than the pump and more effective in most scenarios when the pc is in heavy use.
Not to forget coil whine which is a nuisance with both water and air and tends to be a bit of a lottery.

It depends on your age and level of hearing as well. At idle and very low loads, I don't like to hear a D5 pump or AIO pump. If it doesn't bother you, or if you have your case fans configured to run louder than the pump, then of course it's not an issue.

Going back to the original point of discussion - AIB 4090's with the huge coolers are very attractive for those wanting 0db (no noise, no pump, no fans) at idle and low loads. Hopefully the FE model for the 5090 uses better quality fans this time around!
