New Star Trek series - 2017

Got a bit messy in the middle and i can't believe the cause of the burn was teenage angst! Also, "Let's fly"? Cringe :)

The show does look stunning though.

I actually enjoyed the episode for the most part, however the scenes with the turbolift were ridiculous. Is the ship a Tardis or something with it being bigger on the inside than the outside?

That whole scene made no sense whatsoever, it's almost like someone cut the episode wrong & those scenes were meant to be inside something the size of a borg cube.

Wasn't the worse episode this season and did feel like it's wrapped everything up so we've finished act1 with the first 3 seasons, I wonder what role Saru will come back as hopefully a diplomat trying to aid more races back into the federation, Staments still looks to have issues with Burham so it'll be interesting to see if he's still on the ship next season.

I agree 'let's fly' doesn't work for an iconic line either.

Nothing in this makes any sense. Whenever there is an issue with what they want to do and what would happen or has always happened in star trek they just go "don't worry about it, no one will notice".

I genuinely think that if you cut each episode down to just the cast looking at each other, smiling at each other or looking emotional you would still have 1/4 of the season. Its just garbage writing and I didn't give a single **** about any of the two dimensional characters. By constantly trying to make everything and I do mean everything an emotional event they just killed any genuine attachment you might have to the characters. Its like the couple who are all over each other constantly in public. A few people go "aww, thats sweet" and everyone else just feels awkward and doesn't want to watch.

These people (I won't call them "writers") really do not know how to write stories, characters or dialogue. We shouldn't expect them to do continuity, fact-checking or sanity-checking. They are either really stupid and are busy patting themselves on the back while not realising how terrible they are, or they think the audience is stupid and easily entertained by flashing lights, and they don't need to put any effort in.

Here's a cutaway that Doug Drexler (who designed the NX-01 for Star Trek: Enterprise) provided based on Matt Jefferies' original Enterprise design:

See how tightly-packed it all is? Now sure, the original Enterprise was 'only' 289m long. But even if we do lose our collective sanity and resize the ship by a factor of 1.5 as the STD showrunners did  you're still not going to end up with a ship that has huge open spaces inside it.

And hell, let's look at a really big ship. The Sovereign class Enterprise-E, designed by John Eaves for Star Trek: First Contact.

The Sovereign class is 685m long (673m following the refit before Star Trek: Nemesis that shifted the nacelles slightly forward), so comfortably bigger than the Discoball. See any of those huge open spaces on that Master Systems Display? 'cause I sure don't.

But hey, we're talking about a series where they couldn't even get something as simple as navigation lights correct. So it shouldn't really be surprising that the Discoball makes absolutely no sense as a design :p

totally agree on the turbolift nonsense the ship would have to be the size of the Isle of Man for it too make any sense at all.

When the warp core is ejected, it falls for about 8-9 seconds. That's 200-300 meters under standard earth gravity, the ship is only 18 decks!

The ship basically fits inside itself, probably 2-3 times over.

WTF have I just watched....

This is not StarTrek, it is an abomination not only of StarTrek but Sci-fi in general and TV.

Appalling.

Has anyone attempted to map out this massive interior yet (youtube, reddit, wiki etc)? It'd be quite amusing. I suppose it might take a few days or weeks.

Is Kurtman really a committee of four year olds that have overdosed on Skittles & Red Bull ???

This program makes absolutely no sense...

Yes, let's give Bonehead the captaincy because my daughter didn't like numbers...

And did it really have a holographic dead person exploring outside of the holodeck because stuff ???
