New Star Trek series - 2017

Watch the first episode, better than the trailers made it out to be, seems to be a good modern TV show but its suffering from the one character knows all and everyone else is wrong syndrome right now.

Its trek Jim ........ but not as we know it

Weakest Trek so far by a long stretch, has JJ have anything to do with the SFX (lens flare a plenty)

Good start, good CGI, good production, really unlikable main cast. The nice lady with permanent conjunctivitis has tragically passed away but I hope Michael doesn't become a captain of USS Fengshui, I'm kind of hoping they're going to leave her on a remote planet somewhere in episode 3. Also, does anybody remember any other names of the crew, or was the entire initial cast simply disposable?

Fantastic, really enjoyable first two episodes, just watched them on netflix.
At the moment I have high hopes, good cgi and production and quite liked the actors (even if it looks like mainly different ones in then next episode)

Seems to be a focus on the klingon war which if done right could be really good, espevially as i liked the dominion war in DS9.

The darker, Game of Thrones feel worked really well and I think it will certainly appeal to people who have avoided star trek in the past.

Don't know why they had to do that to the Klingons, yet honour the Vulcans.

Really don't like that, the rest I can learn to love.

The first 2 episodes are just there to set the scene for Michael's story.

Just finished the first two episodes.

First thoughts without much musing - the Klingons were great. What a refresh of a tired alien race! I enjoyed pretty much all of it and can't wait to watch next week.

I hope it eventually goes into an episodic format. I like episodes where the main plot points get resolved, even if there is a longer continuing arc.

As for 'Michael'... hmm, not sure how she can come back from mutiny. She's going to be a captain I guess but that was so... un-captain-esque.

Perhaps I was half watching but I was little confused how they managed to stay so 'hidden' after the bulk of the battle had taken place.

My other minor gripes... get rid of the awful TOS sound effect (@Raymond Lin the weird bleeping sound that went off every now and again is deffo not from the times of Picard).... and the intro sucked!

Overall much better than I thought it was going to be - bring on an episodic format :)

Your Star Trek knowledge FAR exceeds mine, I don't recall any of the beeping sounds.

What I'm saying is - Sonequa is clearly no Picard, so let's hope they make that story very short and release the lady back to her previous contracts, because she's got the screen presence of someone still walking dead.

[edit: I've just checked, she won't be "Picard", that's good stuff, show saved]

I definitely wouldn't call myself a Trekkie, so maybe that informs my opinion, but I enjoyed the first two episodes. It definitely reminded me of JJ Abrams' Star Trek films, most of which I enjoyed, so maybe that's part of why I like it. The lens flare and lighting effects were a bit over the top at times, as with the Abrams films, but the general visuals and presentation were impressive, particularly for a TV show. I liked the lead characters as well and I'm interested to see how they develop the story.

Distinctive yet clearly trek, great opening to something new, basically everything enterprise wasn't! Like the titles but praying the jj lens flair homages stops soon!

Great start to a new series, thought the visuals were very good, liked the plot, the characters will grow over time. Don't like the new ship design but that's just personal preference, also didn't like the space battle scenes, thought the phasers looked weak.

I really don't see why some people are bashing it so much without giving it a chance to at least get a few more episodes in.

Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.
