New Star Trek series - 2017

TNG will always be the best for me as the crew just bonded so well together. It nearly matched in DS9 but I felt Voyager was just lifeless and never watched Enterprise as I can't be doing with Scott Bakula.
 
I for one hope it does follow the new films story universe. Why ? In the new universe TNG, DS9 and Voyager may never exist like we know it.

Captain Picard may never leave his French vineyard and end up on the Enterprise. Janeway may never return from the Gamma quadrant and we might not have to suffer the Ferengi on DS9.

Would we still see the Borg ? Would we still see Q? The possibilities are endless really. I for one would love to see a new DS9 style show involving just the Dominion Wars. I think there best storylines were when it was using that and I loved the Defiant.

Okay I am probably talking out of my blow hole but if you think about it setting the new series in the reset universe it would make for a refreshing series.

Problem is I don't see such a thing being very likely, if for arguments sake we say the new series is set around that timeframe in the new universe it'll almost certainly be a race to introduce the reinventions of every character rather than do something new.

Honestly I favour moving it forward a few hundred years from the films so it really doesn't matter which universe it's set in.
 
If it was me, I'd do a reboot in a brand new galaxy with no federation (or a new equivalent one) and new baddies. Much like they are doing with Mass Effect Andromeda, I think.
 
TNG/DS9/Voyager were all set in a similar time frame, so I'd like to see them move forwards and give us better effects and more advanced technology. I'd also like to see a somewhat darker trek that relies a bit less on the old trek-tropes and comes up with new ones. There's a lot of great SF ideas out there, and sticking to "traditional" trek ideas gives us nothing we've not already seen.

And they will all be models. There will be no repeat of having a bald guy for a captain, or a guy with a beard. Heck no.

They will all be trendy 20 somethings, with perfectly styled hair and skin :p

I love Star Trek, I really wish they would have explained where the B.O.R.G. came from, that would have been great, man I would love to travel space in the Star Trek era... I even have a communication toy (the metal pin looking thing on their shirts) I got when I was a kid, have no idea if it is worth anything...
 
Yeah, it could've been great, but it was with Riker's Titan crew and it's been so long since I read it that I'm not sure if Picard's lot were also involved.

Sadly, I think that time is passed... Shame, because they really could've nailed the required visuals with today's tech - assuming the budget is there.
Also, it would've taken a fair few episodes, if not 2-3 movies to cover it without serious trimming.
 
Half these ideas mentioned in this thread were already pitched for the next trek series...

We had the teenagers running a star ship series which ended up being a one off thingy think it involved the marquee.

The starfleet academy idea..... no doubt with teenagers again

USS Titan with Captain Riker and Commander Troi

Even Captain Worf idea was pitched few times.

New quadrant and new area with new bad guys....may ring some bells

We even had a Captain Sulu series pitched many times....

Am glad none of them came about! They sound better off as one off's or 2 parters and the shows already used those ideas ie when Captain Janeway meets Captain Sulu or Voyager lost in space etc

Dare I say it would love a 24th or 25th century series set on board the next enterprise it just always works, it will be interesting how they honour or deal with the new universe or the original universe situation though.
 
As long as the Romulans look like proper Romulans again I won't complain too much. I have loved every single ST in some way. Would like something a bit grittier though, something akin to a full season on the Darkly Mirror episode would be awesome.
 
Yeah I really didn't like the Klingons or romulans from the new films.

What would be nice to have in a new trek would be more of a exploration of the gamma quadrant. As its still largely unknown due to the dominion. Since the end of ds9 there was peace so hopefully the can explore it without heavy domion interference. Say five years after the war timeline?

Claims new series is set in the new time line, then later says its not maybe pensioner worf forgot his muck tar this morning.

On other news I finally got around to seeing Star trek ; renegade's, I really do wish they let the fans come up with scripts and scenes since it was a disaster from the word go, watching Doc zimmerman smooching for more then 5 seconds almost made me throw up, did they have to do it twice and that long is another debate.

Anyhow hoping the new trek series really does put a great spin on trek as we know it.
