New Star Trek series - 2017

Episode 8.

What a mess? Just feels so disjointed and unexplained. It looked so promising at the start, an away mission, with an arguably strange objective?
The Klingon story just is baffling me.
Again they are crossing the whole galaxy in ten minutes, what's the point of this spore drive.
Why don't they jump back to the best shipyard, retrofit discovery with 20 torpedo launchers, so every fight they have they anhilate everything?

That first officer gets worse every week. Just about the most unsuitable crew member they could have taken to the planet, then he goes off the deep end like some hippy "I'm not afraid!" nonsense.

He does seem to be the most enormously unlikely choice for a first officer. He is essentially a pacifist who avoids conflict, he doesnt exude confidence, he doesnt instill morale or camaraderie amongst the crew, he seems indecisive and not good at decision making, wracked with insecurities. If you were picking a crew, he is the least likely person you would make a first officer.

This is one of my problems with STD, Lorca has been given one of the most powerful ships in Trek, and free reign to do what he needs to do to win the war, yet his crew choice is so far off base, not only from an actual crew member being able to do their own job POV but from a StarFleet POV its just wrong...

Episode 8 felt like it could have been a good episode but ended up feeling like it should have been at least 3 separate episodes. A total mishmash

i've been liking this show so far but ep 8 was terrible - saru's actions are totally out of character and all of a sudden he is super strong for no reason.
But the Klingon story - what the hell is going on here??? is the admiral dead, did she escape - it made no sense at all.
