New Superman is..

Captain Marvel made $1.1 billion.

More than Batman Vs Superman.

I thought Captain Marvel was pretty good personally, recently watched it again barely a couple weeks ago. I actually like Brie Larsons cheeky backchatty personality in the movie. I thought she deserved more time in the Avengers movie, but I can understand why people didn't like her though. Her politics should not be bought into her work.

Captain Marvel was filmed after Endgame and they recut and refilmed scenes to wedge her in.

Don't care if he's white, black, asian or any other denomination, just make him interesting, most superman movies have been very dull due to his being so over powered, there is never any risk.

tbh I was never much of a superman fan really, in my teens and 20's I enjoyed smallville, but the original movies just don't stand the test of time...they were good when I was 5 and watching them in Christmas day though.
I enjoyed the Toby spiderman series and watched the firs reboot movie and didn't like it so I've not been back for more..

New Superman movie 'will star a black new actor for the first time'

It has been revealed that the next Superman movie is due to feature both a black new director and a black new actor in the lead role for the first time ever in a DC movie.

This is how it should read tbh

You’ve reminded me of a similar comment I read about Rob Halford (the lead singer of Judas Priest, the heavy metal band, who came out as being gay).

On a YouTube video discussing this as a powerful moment for Rob, one comment was along the lines of:

“I don’t care if he comes out as gay - it’s not relevant.”

Really though, it’s not relevant to that specific person that commented. There are, probably, many gay men who found it empowering.

Just because something is not important to you doesn’t mean it’s not important for someone else.

I had a similar thing happen to me at work. I have been sick of all the diversity and mental health stuff that gets paraded around in the work place because, if I’m being honest with myself, it’s not targeted at me and I resent it because I suffer and don’t feel like I have a voice. Lo and behold, this week something came out specifically dealing with the mental health of men. And I did legitimately feel empowered by it.

There is definitely a value in making people feel recognised.

The Mark Wahlberg movie Rockstar was based on Judas Priest wasn't it? in my top 3

too late to read what you've said in full but straight gay or whatever floats our boat, how you cum shouldn't define you and how you expect other to see you and treat you huh? you're gay? so what good for you.

But not by taking away from others to do it. We're all in this life together, we should be raising everyone up, not pulling people down to make some feel better. That just creates resentment and division.
I agree with your sentiment generally, but do you really feel that superman not being white is ‘taking something away’?

Does Hollywood really want to burn everything to ground?

They have a pretty disgusting lead writer on this already.

Can't wait for the excuses when China doesn't bail this movie out.

At this point DC Comics and Marvel is dead. They have drove away their customers they built-up over decades. Not a single Marvel or DC book in the top 20 comic book sales for April.

if it's not then what's the reason for doing it?

That is an unfortunate and bizarre way looking at it. I’m struggling to get my head around it!

If anything at all, making a superman film where superman is black is saying a combination of: “superman can be a black man” and “a black man can play the role of superman.”

It is not, in any way saying: “superman cannot be a white man”, “all portrayals where superman is white can and/or must be disregarded” and it’s especially not “we must do so to punish white people” - that last one is bizarre!

I have not once ever contemplated the colour of superman’s skin before this topic. I have no personal attachment to the colour of his skin and I think it is odd, of all the things to identify with the character, to identifying with him having white skin.

At the same time, as he is such a ‘all star hero’ I can simultaneously understand why people may feel empowered with him being their skin colour too.

I don’t find myself going out on a limb to recognise this, nor do I feel bothered with superman being portrayed by any person.

Some folks will see it as exactly that due to the casting direction of specifically demanding not just a black actor but a black script-writer and black director at the exclusion of every other characteristic. In todays turbulent racial times where everything has to confront something, none of that casting list sounds like a studio whose saying "hey lets make a great film where Supes just happens to be black instead of white" but instead it could read like a studio out to "send a message", where the quality of the story, acting or direction isn't as important as the message about choosing people based on their skin colour sends.

Just because something is not important to you doesn’t mean it’s not important for someone else.

To some keeping the character they enjoy in line with that characters "Canon" is important, so people who are saying that changing the characters Canon, for example changing his skin colour, isn't important are very much missing the point you made - that is IS important to other folks. The only way Canon changes are usually accepted is by making "alternate universe" versions such as the pro-Soviet "Red Son" version etc and we don't yet know if this new black superman film will be an alternate universe version or an attempt at rewritting the Canon.
