New top gear lineup..

Seems like they couldn't decide on just one mediocre presenter so picked a handful just to be sure.

I'll give it a shot to see what it's like but I think it will disappoint, people will be expecting 'Top Gear' but they are not going to get that.

It almost looks like they want to return to Chris Goffey & William Woollard times:
- They have a Watchdog-style tech guy to do "in-depth" car reviews and re-assure us that Zastava Yugo interior is "soft in all the right places"
- They have Sabine/LeBlanc/Evans to do Clarkson/Needell mock-around stuff
- They have an internet pundit with face for radio to do motorshow and news reports
- They have an F1 guy to do commentary over final block of motor sport events.

No idea who the guy is on the left

Sabine is enjoyable - I like her

Matt, good in friends, although I am not sure he has the stuff to be a high octane TV presenter, he is far too chilled out when he is on TV in real life rather than fast talking and energetic- Saying that, he is an actor, and maybe he will act his way through being a fast paced TV presenter or take some lessons in presenting

Chris Evans is a total knob

No idea

Eddie Jordan - After some money

The Stig - Wishes he was at Amazon

6 presenters seems like a lot, but maybe they were trying to avoid a direct comparison. That would be a good idea because Clarkson, Hammond and May were Top Gear. Putting 3 different presenters in the same program would be unlikely to go well.

I'll think of this as Top Gear 3, different to Top Gear 2 (Clarkson, Hammond and May) which was different to Top Gear 1 (Old Top Gear, before the 2002 relaunch). I'll watch at least the first few episodes to see how it goes.

Chris Harris with a big budget should be good enouhg by itself. He makes great videos on a shoestring.

Technically, what you dub as "Top Gear 2" wasn't always Clarkson, Hammond and May. Series 1 was odd.

Aaaaah... Jason Dawe doing the "you can save 1500 quid off a skoda if you go in on the 3rd tuesday in march with cash and a couple of freshly caught cod" bit.

Rapidly dumped.

It was odd. And we would probably do well to remember it was so before completely writing off the new TG - even if S1 does turn out to be a bit hit and miss.

I would probably be a little surprised if the same presenter line-up took the stage in Series 2. Not that I particularly think they've picked wrong with anyone at the outset - just that stuff that doesn't quite work will be recognised and corrected as they progress.

Really happy about Harris - I've always enjoyed his reviews on youtube. As others have said if he gets to do the performance car reviews id watch it just for that.

EDDIE JORDAN? I literally got sky so I could escape his inane, idiotic bile. I will literally not watch this now. Not even to see what it's like.

I have the dubious pleasure of enduring Radio 2 each morning at work, so Evans was always going to be an instant turn off. When I heard today that Chris Harris was involved I perked up a bit, but once I get home from work I find there are now 6 presenters, one of whom is Eddie Jordan!?! I can only imagine what the new format will be.

Harris, gives them some cred to those "in the know" but I still fear it'll be mainly Evans slobbering over his collection of tedious Ferrari's.

He's black, that's a fact. What's not a fact is that his blackness was why he got the gig. You suggesting as much really is you doubting his credentials and/or talent (i.e. your disbelief in him getting the job without help from a quota).

They held an open audition, and I can well believe he was the best for the job to come through that. You can check his stuff out, it's great:

I bet they saw more than one person that was great.

But when the BBC is trying to make top gear as PC and uncontroversial as possible (so much so that Chris Evans apparently threatened to quit over the extent of the BBC's interventions) how do you think they chose between the good candidates ?

Its like the decision to involve Sabine as a main presenter where previously she only featured a bit. Is she a good presenter ? yes, but you can bet the fact she's a woman won't have been lost on the meddling BBC staff.

My thoughts entirely. This is about returning it to a "magazine" style format with different presenters for the appropriate sections. Wonder if they'll get somebody to do some token motorcycle bits ala steve berry ?

This new format top gear might be enjoyable, but the top gear format that the old team had perfected into the world wide smash hit we all loved so much is well and truly dead.

exactly, the first few series of top gear did proper road tests and advice on car buying. It was boring, and it only became the best selling program for BBC worldwide when it moved away from that.

If this doesn't work out for the BBC I can see Amazon buying the Top Gear rights.

that could be interesting...

also I feel a bit sorry for the black guy - for all we know he was the best candidate for the job but with the current PC environment there is the suspicion/insinuation that he is the 'token black guy' and isn't there on merit
