And two statues of big fat men with no tops on and made in newcastle tattood around the belly buttonIf yours isn't in the shape of a giant newkie brown tin I don't want to know about it.
How so? I thought an announcement was expected today on whether it’d be a new stadium or a refurbed OT?The timing of the announcement just feels odd/misjudged.
I'd not drawn the comparison - that's an incredible space so if the stadium is anything like that it will be great. When I was doing my RIBA Part 2 I went and visited Norman Foster's office and spoke to the structural engineer who was (or still is) a lecturer at Bath University as I was doing a study on their work on the roof of the British Museum. It seems they have taken the same design idea and multiplied it by 100.
Ah was it planned? How so? I thought an announcement was expected today on whether it’d be a new stadium or a refurbed OT?
not been following it closely but i'm sure i read something a week or 2 back saying that a decision was due today.Ah was it planned?
With the recent redundanciea, protests and Gary interview it just seems like an odd time to make an announcement.
No, the public will be financing the redevelopment of the area around the stadium, not the stadium itself. The article I read mentioned hoping the UK government would foot some of the bill... Sure that'll go down well with any Liverpool fans..
"Wembley of the North".

Are you familiar with Frei Otto? He was the champion of these kinds of draped structures long before they placed a gridshell over the british museum. This arena/stadium will be more of a cablenet I think than a gridshell, but maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps they can get gridshells to go further these days. iirc he did some big stuff, the Munich Olympic Stadium roof for one. When I was doing my RIBA Part 2 I went and visited Norman Foster's office and spoke to the structural engineer who was (or still is) a lecturer at Bath University as I was doing a study on their work on the roof of the British Museum. Does anyone actually think this will happen?
It has to happen in some form or another, I'm just suspicious of the big promises about how it will generate enough extra revenue that it won't hamstring the playing side of the club for a decade and see prices for normal fans rocket.Does anyone actually think this will happen?
Ego, boredom, lack of friends and family, could be many things.Yes I do. It's overdue and don't see why it wont. I don't know what motivates a 72ish year old to get involved in stuff like this. I mean he could not even live to see it built. The club seems like a huge thing to get involved in at that time of life.
Yup, could be another millennium dome.It has to happen in some form or another, I'm just suspicious of the big promises about how it will generate enough extra revenue that it won't hamstring the playing side of the club for a decade and see prices for normal fans rocket.
Could be worse: this one was once proposed for Battersea in London:What is that design? Looks like a giant condom.
Also Man Utd are Schrödinger's cat. They have both no money at all and £2 billion for a new stadium.
What's wrong with that? It looks amazingCould be worse: this one was once proposed for Battersea in London:

Project was canned as it would have taken years to erect. What's wrong with that? It looks amazing![]()
