New World MMO

Honestly didnt think they would do another beta, I will give it another go but its going to have to be vastly improved compared to the last beta if they are going to convince me to buy it.

No one expected an open beta given the last launch date but it's pretty standard really. Alpha, close, open....natural course of MMO releases.

Nothing much will have changed so don't expect it to. There will be bug fixes for the exploits found and perhaps some quality of life changes but the mechanics won't have changed in 4 weeks. This beta is likely just to be about numbers testing to see where the limits of the servers are and whether any changes they've made to the War instances have the desired effects.

If nothing has changed then I am going to find it as poor an MMO as I did last time round, they need to do far more with it to impress me into thinking its in any way a decent MMO. I'll give it a try again just in case but from what you are saying there it sounds like I will still find it to be a poor shell of an MMO.

New open beta from the 9th to the 12th if you didn't see already!

Looking forward to jumping in the deep end when this thing launches. **** all else to play til Elden Ring anyway.

Nice, good to know. Can't wait to get back in there.

When reading the thread I feel I'm the only one who's still waiting the New World to arrive.

For some reason a lot of people hate on the game and like to just carry on with that hate so you do get a lot of negative bias in places.

I myself am rather looking forward to it as there are a lot of really good things about it.

I think there are a lot of people looking forward to it and as I've said before the foundations are definitely there to be a good MMO, its just that its a long way from that. Currently it feels like an MMO which has been designed by people who have never played an MMO before. Its got a base there but it should have really stayed in development for another year imo to actually get it into an MMO state in terms of mechanics and content. I'm sure it will have a lot of players initially, my curiosity lies in how many players it will have by December. That will be the indication of whether or not it has legs to be anything other than an also ran in the MMO genre.

Can't wait, a lot of the no content whines after I power ground to level 60 in 4 days crew for me there was plenty I mean I pretty much spent 2 weeks playing it solid and only got to level 24 whilst doing other stuff.

I suppose that's kids now, want everything like NOW, I remember playing UO for like 4 years and not even maxing a single skill out.

Hope thats not a post aimed at me ! I first started playing MMOs in 1997 with Ultima Online and have played every single major MMO ever since and (sadly) I am a long looooong way from being a kid :D

Is this the one which was wrecking some people's 3090 GPUs? If so it looks nice but I would need definite confirmation that was sorted before risking it on my rig. Beta is beta and I expect bugs...... Just not hardware busting ones.

Of course I apologise if I am confusing games.

Yes, it was suspected that there was no frame limiter in the game menus' and the affected cards didn't deal with it very well. It was fixed pretty quickly from what I can tell.

There was content held back in the closed beta, it's just that most of the people who got to 60 abused exploits to do so and therefore didn't read the quests and didn't realise that the quest chain hadn't actually ended.

Thanks for info.
I don't play unfinished games for fear of burnout but I do like the look of this game so will be checking out once it launches (or until progress made carries over anyway)

If it's a soldering issue it makes you wonder how many there are out there with this issue but hasn't failed yet due to not playing new world/ similar game and would EVGA replace possible cards outside of warranty if the soldering goes on other cards

Someone mentioned the Ife server but not sure what backing was behind that.

The community is expecting some server shuffling before open beta and perhaps before the live release as well so it's hard to make a coordinated effort because no-one knows what servers will be where (or it's all a ruse and Amazon will leave it as it was in closed beta)

Or people got bored of… run 15 mins looking at the same environment to go kill 7 foxes. Then run back to hand it in to be given another quest of either run back to the same place and kill 5 pigs or go to an equally similar place and do it.

It’s beyond lazy design, I mean it’s as basic as it gets.

Add to that the combat is appalling and it’s just a bland game with pretty graphics.

So it must mean people who see how shallow and basic it is must be kids. Maybe they just aren’t simpletons easily pleased by any old garbage served to them. Any half decent mmo coming out and this would fail miserably.

A pvp game that has about 3 buttons to press and no animation cancelling. It’s an mmo for the fisher price age group.

Aren't the all? that's what sells these days, it's not like the old days where you have to graft to do stuff, people complain about that so dev's make the games to what the majority of people want which is brains disengaged click this click that. We have the same argument other other online games we play the games get continually dumbed down patch after patch but that's what people want in the majority because they keep paying.... it's the same arguments over and over but people keep buying it so they keep selling it.
Personally I don't care anymore I don't have the time to put into it, I have a family and a social life I can't spend 8 hours a day playing games if I find a game that gives me a years worth of content for 50 quid that's a good deal even if it's only an hour here an hour there.
Like anything don't enjoy it don't buy it, it's not like you haven't been given enough warning about the content or the gameplay, the problem is the customers who think like you and me (like I used to) are actually in the minority these days so we aren't catered for apart from a quick post of a games thread where's the Dev's say "hey we are listening to your concerns" and then promptly throw the post into the bin.

I haven't played an MMO since 2010ish or there about but beta tested a lot of games prior to that (and if you think your a super beta tester try beta testing Lineage 2, in Korean, when you don't understand Korean...). I'd be interested to hear what better MMO's there are in terms of questing as I would genuinely like to see these amazing elaborate and unique experiences that no one ever references when bashing something else. Fundamentally they are all the same.

It sounds like Sega was complaining about town board tasks as I don't remember seeing much of a kill animal quest thing. Sure there was early stuff to teach about skinning mechanics but it's not as bad as it is reported....although some people just like to complain about pointless stuff.

And the complaint of lack of skills I find is very lazy thought in itself. New World has attempted to slightly step away from the MMO meta of 20 skills per player where most are not needed and tab targeting is just a boring assist train. More skills, more buttons to press doesn't mean better. The combat is different to a standard MMO but I'm actually liking that aspect of having to target your attacks instead of just running through the combo wombo boring tab targeting. If you can't master 3 skills then having 20 isn't going to be any better. I mean Call of Duty has 1 click skill right, task is to just shoot people over and over....must be a terrible 'kids' game right?

There is some animation cancelling, but if you've failed to find (or understand what does it) that then perhaps Fisher Price is too high an age range for some.

The only problem with that logic is that if every game used the excuse "well other games dont do it any better than ours, so that means ours is fine" then no genre would ever advance. Any game, in any genre, should improve (or at least attempt to) the genre, not simply wave the its the same questing as others flag.

You are right in that most MMOs, not all, but most have simple kill/fetch quests in them but that simply doesnt just automatically give a new game a pass to do the same, not in my book.

Having said that, this line of debate is a bit of a pointless one. New World is a very marmite MMO, there are those who love it and wont hear criticism against it and there are those who dont like it and wont hear a good word about it and nothing said on here by anyone in this thread is going to sway a person to change their stance. I'm very much taking the Cohhcarnage stance on New World as it mirrors my own thoughts on it. Which is that there are two interesting numbers revolving around New World, the first being how many players it has in its 1st month and the second being how many players it has on Dec 31st. Those are the numbers I will be keeping an eye on.
