For all we know this could be the hold up for the deal the PL know they have no way to transmit the games of the team they are going to buy, so the PL may be negotiating with Saudi and Qatar for Saudi to buy a portion of the rights and they are haggling over money. The rights are owned by beIN so the only way that could happen would be if beIN resold them onto Saudi, which would require the PL's permission unless already included in their agreement.

And I've not dismissed it out of hand, I've said it's unlikely. beIN own the rights, so it would require their consent* for the Saudi's to broadcast PL football on any platform that's not beIN. Unless beIN are paid way ott (or their fee is reduced significantly) then where's the benefit to them in agreeing to this? If you look at the value of their deal on a state by state basis you're probably looking at £10m odd per season. Would that be enough to persuade beIN not to be a pain in the arse?
