*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

LED is at the bottom of the screen.

I'm rather minimalistic on apps. SwiftKey though is a must have IMO. People will say otherwise though!

Downloaded Light Flow, but when I try to test the LED notification it doesn't work? Any ideas?

EDIT: a quick reboot sorted it out!

Loving Vanilla Android (Again!)

Only thing that bugs me is Hangouts. Is there a way to install the old AOSP sms app?

From Earlier in the thread.

For those of you that want to replace Hangouts, you can get a working 4.4 AOSP MMS.apk from here:

Side load as normal. When opening it for the first time it will prompt you that Hangouts is currently set as default. You can now change that in Settings and disable Hangouts if you want.

So my battery life was being pretty pants last week, so I wiped my phone over the weekend and installed my apps agian, and now it is amazing. I got 4hours + screen time and 8hours usage yesterday and fell asleep at 15%+. Today it is setting at 56% with 2hours and a half of screen time. The biggest difference is that the battery doesn't drain at all while it sleep.

I have been gaming a lot (5s is super addictive) so with lighter usage this thing could last a lot longer. No real idea what was draining it before, better battery status didn't report anything.

I've found a factory reset will provide very different battery results from the same set up. Might be worth a try first?

Yup. Amazing what wiping and putting the exact same apps back on can do...

The same can happen with others though, something odd with Android. I've had it a few times that they just start munching through battery, wipe and install again, great battery life.

I bet cpw having it at £240 has netted a lot of new users for the nexus! Its a shame cpw don't sell the 32gb, as the (now) £100 difference for 16gb is quite extreme!

Really drained it as much as possible, at 12% now, had skype on all day, played 2hours of games, 1hour of ACC 10bit anime. Ended up with 4hours and 28mins screen time, and over 9 hours usage. This is typical more then I would use in a day. If things do keep like this I could get 2 days with less usage.

Just bought one myself and spent a few hours setting up to then realise that by unlocking the bootloader will wipe everything.
So it will stay as it is until curiosity, and the Nexus toolkit, get the better of me and the phone.

I didn't think that I would be buying the Nexus 5 so early in its release cycle, I'm often a generation or so behind. But at £240 it just made it affordable to buy and early impressions are pretty positive.

I'll feel better when the case and screen protector arrives but for a vanilla android experience it seems quite responsive, who knows I might not get around to unlocking it....

Mine was fantastically fast, certainly a damn sight snappier than the iphone 4s I had at the time.

I'd go as far as to say its faster than the note 3 too, despite having less ram thanks to it having no bloat.

If you take a look on XDA you can get the stock messaging app back should you so desire it instead of hangouts too.

Erm, ok, so mine won't turn on now! Was using it in bed, it dropped to 14% and notified me so I plugged it in, went to tidy up the lounge and came back 5 minutes later and the screen wouldn't turn on. Holding power, power/vol buttons, etc, does nothing, either when plugged in or not plugged in.

Argh!

Even if it lasts more than a day do people not charge daily? I read it's better to not let your battery drain all the way, so I always top up my phone before it gets too low. If I'm at home, I'll charge it up at 50-60% etc. I always charge it overnight too, so I'm always at 100% in the morning too.

Anyone experienced this no boot issue? Don't really want to take it back to CPW as I know they'll be faff and the phone hasn't been wiped (though is PIN protected).

So it got to 14% last night, I plugged it in, come back and screen doesn't turn on. Left it on charge all last night and nothing makes it boot (assuming it's off). Tried just power for >60 sec, power+vol- >60sec, power+vol+/- for >60sec. Nothing.

When it's plugged in you can 'hear' it charging when pressed against your ear, a high pitched electrical noise. My N4 does this but not as loud. Could that be related to the issue?

If you're getting nothing out of it even when trying to boot to recovery then you're pretty stuffed and it should be pretty simple for them to plug it in see it won't turn on and switch it out.
