*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

I just picked one of these up, hard to resist at the price. I unlocked the bootloader and rooted straight because frankly I needed to lower the lcd density, everything was huge at 480! I lowered it to 400 and flashed a 36dpi navbar and its spot on now.

Colours don't look as good as my nexus 4 when side by side, but I cant notice in general use.

Flash the Franko Kernel then you can use the display app he does to give the colours a boost.

what, chrome was actual being normal for me for awhile on the forums. They really suck with font rendering over at google.

But they don't, that's the problem.

I use Chrome on my tablet and its perfect. It's just the phone interface of Chrome that sucks, and there's no easy way to force the tablet interface on a phone.

Serious ? The n5 blows my N4 screen away.

They do, font rendering in webkit isn't that great to start off with, for example Firefox has a much better font rendering engine. But if you look at Chrome on Windows it is just a mess, I use chrome on every device and I have been doing a lot of front end work recently and webkit as a whole is a sham.

Here is a good comparison, and generally you need to hack around webkit to get fonts looking just right. It depends on which font your using off course.

Genuine question, do know why?

Its related to the DPI (I think?) of either the screen or the app. You can trick the phone version into thinking it's on a tablet by having root and changing the DPI manually, but without root there isn't a way to do it. Better still, it should just be an option in Chrome as to which interface to use.

Previously I did find the n4 screened washed out but since using the kitkat port on that device the screen looks great to my eyes, on closer inspection I think its mainly that whites appear incredibly white on the n4 whereas they have a slight yellow tinge on the n5 when side by side.

Now in a position to purchase the N5. Gutted the CW deal has just finished though. Any other similar deals knocking about for the N5?

Just about to say the same.

I think the CPW deal is still the best on at the moment.

It looks that way. Just spoke to them on the phone, the deal finished yesterday and I was going to order today... They wouldn't give me yesterday's deal, I didn't expect them to, but it was worth a try :(

I've just put my week old one up on HUKD for £240.

Bought it to see if i'd use it if it was set up just the same as my my iPhone, but its sat there unused virtually for a week.

Dropped my nexus today from about 5 foot whilst swinging my arm. It was in a spiegen neo hybrid case. No damage what so ever to it.

Very impressed. Was onto kitchen lino..the stuff which has a bit a softness to it but is generally firm.
