*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

I use the Google photo sync thing and it seems to work quite well, syncing and backing up when I'm on WiFi and only the folders that I want it to. This allows me to view the photos easily on my PC and tablets as well as to share certain albums with friends and family members.
I just make sure that I deselect certain image folders (like wallpaper etc) from the backup folders and all seems good. I also maintain the original image size and not allow compression.

I can also use Picasa on the PC to share and upload albums from photos I have taken with my other cameras and share them via Google photos, pretty impressed with it so far.

+1 I really like the auto backup, I messed up last year and lost 6 months worths of photos, was really gutted :(. One time after a factory reset the photos up decided to upload everything, including 10gb of videos I had on my device lol.

Anyone know if the Apple bud (iPhone 5 version) work with the Nexus, think the sound is OK I'm more interested in the mic function

Also does anyone use the "hello google" command and on their phone and is it a gimmick or a worthy/helpful function

I use a set of RHA ma450i, but they don't have the full remote working on the N5. Mic works fine, play/pause works fine but volume and forward/back don't.

I've got a set of iPhone buds I'll try tonight from my old 5, but I'm guessing it'll be the same.... from what I've read, Apple reverse polarity on one of the connections for the remote, so they only work correctly on Apple kit. RHA told me I'd get the basic functionality but nothing else.

I've taken to using a bluetooth remote to connect the headphones now though.... keeps the phone dry in a bag and means I've got full remote again!

Couldn't go back to an iPhone from my N5 now.

I'm happy to manually turn the volume up and down via the phone as long as the mic works

If you could check that would be super.. My N5 should arrive tomorrow

Will do.... Mic on the RHA works fine with everyone apart from the wife. Can't think why that is though! I'll report back with results.

if you want IEM's then monoprice for £3.50 delivered (flubit) are amazing, just as good as any other IEM under £50 I imagine but cost less than 10% of the price the black/silver ones suffer from microphonics due to the corded cable so go for the white rubber version.

otherwise post in sound city if you want to know more about IEM's or headphones or go to head fi.

koss porta pro's or ksc75 are worth a mention too

I read somewhere the volume/skip buttons are Apple patented? I do miss this functionality from my iPhone. Can confirm that the iPhone 4S headphones only allow stop/start from the central button.
If any headphones had a working volume solution for the N5 I would buy them straight away.

Can I ask what make/model you have?

Was going to ask the same question

If you're rooted you can install xposed and gravity box to enable that functionality.

Sadly non-rooted. I don't plan on it either.
I just noticed a bluetooth receiver has fast forward functionality etc so could use this to control music. Google 'Jumbl Bluetooth Hands-Free', anyone got one of these?

This bad boy.

Not a stunner by any account, but sounds spot on and has decent battery life. Would have preferred USB charg port rather that a Nokia-style pinhole one, but you can't have everything.

Tried a couple of others and sent them straight back.... kept this one though, as it behaves as I want it to and how it should.

Can't do root due to banking app and the two factor app for remote access at work, otherwise I'd be rooting the jeebus out of it, as I've done with every Nexus since the One.

For calling, I take it the Mic on the device is used rather than one on the wire?

Yes. Anything attached becomes dumb headphones.... device does everything from that point on.

I need to investigate the Monoprice buds and others, even though my RHA set are great.... shorten the wires etc.

Does anyone know in particular what USB cable the Nexus Wireless charger uses? I have dozens of USB cables and only that one powers the pad. Trouble is the supplied cable is too short for its intended use (think it's 1m) so I need to buy a slightly longer one (1.5/2m).
