*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

I got mine back from LG at the weekend. I did have to ring up and give them a prod to get fixing it! They replaced the motherboard in the end.

I'm glad to have it back. I never would have thought I'd prefer the N5 to the S4 I was using as a stop gap replacment as much as I do.

I bought 2 nexus 5s back in November for Carphone Wharehouse when they first came out for me and the wife and they've both been pretty terrible with GPS from day one.
We tried to use them recently for directions with google maps and they both completely failed to work.
I downloaded a gps app and left mine outside for an hour and got the following screen which I assume means no gps lock.

I've tried every setting in location from high accuracy to device only and still no joy.
Am I missing something obvious or do I need to contact carphone wharehouse to resolve my problems?
After this amount of time do you think they'd be interested?

Is all the Nexus 5 handsets unlocked? I got one awhile back off eBay UK and it has been prefect while using it in the UK.

But I am in Canada at the moment and I have stuck in a local sim and it is coming up with No Service and then I also have a USA sim and that comes up with no service also.

I was sure all the Nexus 5s where unlocked! Anyway I can check if it is unlocked?

North America gets a slightly different models that supports different range of frequency bands so it could be to do with that.

But it's a UK Nexus 5 Phone well I think so. I got it off eBay UK and the seller give me the receipt from Google Play. I just checked the my model number and it is the D821 which is the rest of the world model supports:

Rest of World (D821) model:

GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20

Canadian Network (Fido) & T-Mobile USA are both supported I think by my phone. So this is very strange

D820 is the North American model.

Model LG-D820 (North America)
CDMA band class: 0/1/10
WCDMA bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19
LTE bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41

are both phones stock? not rooted or using custom rom's, etc?

are both phones naked? not inside a case, etc?

I have zero issues with mine, in fact it's really accurate, google now even tells me where I have parked my car, etc automatically on google maps with pinpoint accuracy.

Used Google Maps when I went north yesterday, I was using that and my father-in-law was using his TomTom we purchased for him at Christmas, his seemed to route in other directions to Google but overall I found Google clear, I like the uncluttered look. Whilst up there we needed to find a local place for a caravan tow link cable, love the way I could search, shows you a Google View of the building, full address and tap to route, the whole integration feels very smooth on my N5 :)
