NFL 2021 Season

As I post this, McCaffery has just bulldozed his way in. He's so tough for a shifty, 3rd down type. (I know he's not a 3rd down back, but he's in that build, but somehow runs between the tackles like the best of them.

But... how did the 49ers not take a Time Out as a minimum on that 4th down 'catch''. The receiver jumped up, signalling to run a play quick and no-one thought... erm, if anyone knows if he caught it or not, it's the receiver... take a time out, take a look, it was 4th down for gods sake.

It is a shame when games are impacted so heavily by injuries and stupid decisions (for penalties)

This ankle stuff is doing my head in, he didn't have one leg did he, literally just ran for the game winning brain fart by the defender, looked OK then. If it was that bad he wouldn't have played.
I'm kinda torn on the matter. Yes, they made a very big deal of it. Yes, he could run, just about... but clearly not like he usually will. Then, the feet and legs do play a reasonably big part in throwing with velocity (esp your rear plant foot) but at the same time, Maholmes is one of the best in recent time in throwing in unorthodox ways, so maybe less impact to him as it would others?

On a serious note (the game is tomorrow, so the Chiefs can't win tonight) honestly I would question that your friend is that clever. Yes, the Chiefs could very easily win, but so could the Eagles. The Chiefs have Maholmes, which means they are always in with a chance, but the Eagles are technically a better team.

It's a little like betting on a coin toss if you're literally picking a winner. Even if you win, you'll likely not even double your money, surely? Bet on a score or margin of victory and you might get lucky, or throw in Chiefs to win, and the game to have more than 60 points, or something like that.

Personally, I think the Eagles will win 38 - 31.

(Out of interest, how many Eagles games has your friend watched?)

Not sure about Eagles but he was very confident he did the research and it was all pointing to a Chiefs win.
I wouldn't say it really works like that though. All too often the numbers suggest one thing might happen, but then another happens... (possibly because one team realises the numbers suggest something so they do something different to lessen the effect) What I do know is, people often get excited by a super powerful offence and underestimate what a great defence sometimes does to them. The Eagles have the better D and the better line (both sides of the ball) so that would be where my cash would be.

What about instead of a winner, just the 2nd half to have more points than the 1st? Similar odds and from my own research seems a more common occurrence than not?
Yeah maybe. Or just find online roulette and stick some cash on 'black' :p If it's a shootout, yes, probably the 2nd half has more points. If one team gets a lead, maybe they slow the game down and then there are not as many points...

Well, it's the same again. I think I originally said this after the last Chiefs win?

At the same time, I truly believe you can never blame/credit a game to one play. Lots of things should/could have been different. If you are looking for the most impactful play of the game, I thought at the time Hurtz fumbled the ball, that would be the difference in the game and I think it was. You can't just give the Chiefs a free touchdown like that.

I was probably most surprised by the lack of pressure on Maholmes. I get that they got a crazy amount of sacks this season, mostly from just rushing 4, but at what point do you realise that's not enough in this game and put a little more pressure on him?

I was thinking Hard Knocks maybe wasn't as good... well, it was different. In the past they often haven't spent a lot of time with the superstars. It's been about the rookies in camp. We get to know them and follow their fight to make it onto the team. This years first ep was the Aaron Rodgers Show...

Trying to watch last nights game, I wouldn't say it's a good start.

I am casting from an Android device -
If I come away from the app, or the phone turns the screen off, when I go back to the app it resets and disconnects the cast
Every time I restart, it defaults to highlights, not full game or giving me an option before it starts
When casting, I can't skip forward

On the plus side, I've installed the Samsung TV app and it carries on from where I was on my phone, so that's handy. I can now skip forward and actually it works well and is quite quick as opposed to the old app that you skip on 10 seconds, like 12 times and they you're waiting 4 or 5 seconds for it to work it all out.

So to watch NFL on DAZN do I need to pay for DAZN and then pay for the NFL game pass on top of that?
Not that I'm aware of.

In the end it was actually a better experience than previous years, using Samsung's native TV app. I had one crash and had to forward back to my position, but otherwise, if I stopped and started again it knew where I was up to. If adverts came, hit skip forward 4 times and only a second or so later I'm watching 2 mins on.

Yeah, Fields is great for some highlights, for pulling a ridiculous play out of nowhere from time to time, but to consistently win games, you really need someone that can sit in a pocket and spread the ball about, right? (Or a really really good running game and D)

Some good games last night, I will put thoughts in spoilers in case not everyone is caught up (but tbf, why would you come in this thread if you weren't!?)

We won a game everyone thought we would. Most thought it would be a lot easier, so it perhaps doesn't bode well, but it's still very early.

A 2 point win for Miami... I think back to the completely stupid PI at the end of the first half that literally gifted Miami 3 points...

I did think it odd that so many people have picked the Giants to be so good. Last year they only won one game by more than one score, so their overall record could have been very different. I just don't think they're that good (don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I think the Commanders are any better), so no real surprise at this result. Again though, it's very early and things could go very differently later in the season.

With the AI's saying my draft was average ish, right now I'm the top scoring team in my league, but 20 points, but Josh Allen could pull that back to overtake my tally. I also have the top-scoring bench by about 30, having had Brandon Aiyuk sitting on it... Also, who would have thought I should have started Anthony Richardson over Lamar Jackson?! Still, it's a positive start for my guys with Ekeler and the 49ers D giving me an easy win in week 1.

I'm looking for something that will tell me what the most entertaining NFL game of the week has been? (So I can watch it when I'm not watching the saints) any ideas?
Last season I wondered if there was anything like this. I usually head to bed around halftime of the second set of games and it would be handy to know which ones were good, for catching up the next day. You need an IMDb for NFL games, each game gets rated etc...

Well, it was nice while it lasted... (Commanders beating the Eagles) Maybe we've gotten a little respect back after last weeks drubbing by the Bills. Let's see how we finish up.

Whilst I've probably not changed my overall opinion of Fields, wow, is he having a great game!
