It's been rumoured for almost as long as the Switch has been around, but yes, it does look like a Pro model is coming, though it's worth noting that this isn't going to be a "Switch 2" by all accounts.
I must be one of the very few Switch users who never uses it as a portable device, so I am very keen to see if they can improve docked performance. No doubt all the talk of 4k will be upscaled using nvidia's technology, but if i can just play Breath of the Wild without going into single digit frames in the forest areas, I'll be happy. But then there is the sequel and will probably have to wait years for another console to play that smoothly.
I feel like this Pro model needs to happen whether they want to make it or not. I know Nintendo dances to the beat of their own drum and the sales show they are right to do that, but I feel they are going to get left behind technologically soon as there is a massive shift to 4k/ray traced gaming over the next few years. I understand the portability is a big selling point for the Switch (not for me), but Valve are apparently releasing a new portable device, and i doubt it would take much for Sony to come up with something in the next few years.
Edit - forget to mention Links Awakening remake, that game should not be suffering the kind of slowdown you experience in it, criminal given how simplistic it looks
I remember when the switch got released and everyone in this forum was banging on the same. Too slow, graphics arent good enough etc etc. Yet it sells like hot cakes, they can bring out 10 year old games and absolutely smash profit on them. If Nintendo knows anything, it's how to cater for the market and make a **** ton of money.
Switch Pro will be announced this week, get excite people!
Switch Pro has a larger screen and its OLED, bit more power with 4k upscaling tech to output 4k resolution to TV's via the upgraded dock. What's not clear is if the Dock itself has additional hardware inside it that allows for the upgraded graphics or if it's updated hardware inside the Switch itself. Given that Nintendo has a history of hardware add-ons for it's consoles, I would not be surprised at all if the new Switch itself's internal hardware is just a minor revision of the original to maintain good battery life with the upgraded screen and all the extra performance is from hardware inside the Dock.
The Switch Pro will be priced higher than the base model's $299, however the base model is also gone. Manufacturing for the base model will be turned off in July and stock sold, the Pro replaces the base model, the Switch Lite will continue to be sold
Nintendo hasn't ever actually made a hardware add-on that boosted power, has it? I mean they've always wanted too, it just never came to anything. So maybe this is their time.
