*** Nintendo Switch ***

Wow what a let down. I can see the logic to not create a 2 tier console generation, but the PS4 and XBox managed it just fine so why can't Nintendo?
They could easily create games that scaled depending on whether it was Switch Pro or normal switch without adversely affecting the installed user base.

I am not overly surprised though like others have said!

What's the bet that these will be scalped anyway.....

I mostly play docked on my OLED anyway so I’m not sure if it’s even worth it for me. Although I have had my switch since launch.

If it was a better resolution screen + upgraded hardware then I’d 100% be on it but just for the upgraded screen. Don’t think I’ll bother.

I can see without any further info of the pro buying this then buying the pro when botw2 comes out… so I hope that gets announced before this is released.

Storage is so cheap the difference in storage is like £5.

Will have to wait for more info see if there is any changes other than the OLED screen. Chances are it will be scalped and won’t get one anyway.

I think that when you compare the Switch to the PS4 you are dealing with a console that barely plays A LOT of games at a usable resolution vs a console that was absolutely fine at 1080p for all games. The PS4 pro made the graphics a bit better. A Switch pro might lead to ported games simply being awful on the Switch V1. Games like Doom, the Witcher etc could end up only working properly on the Switch pro and Nintendo doesn't want the headache.

Isn't this just because the original hardware is now EOL? It's not a 'new release' as such, more they had to use different parts to keep producing the current console so they've highlighted some of the benefits that brings. Surely it's aimed at those without a Switch already not those with one looking for an upgrade.

I'm aware but having double the inbuilt storage is great. Also I current use a Lite as only play in handheld but the new 7 inch oled is more appealing to me as me eyesight is failing due to diabetes complications. Find a lot of text almost impossible to read on the smaller screen.

I have a feeling the UK price might be around £330-£350.

External memory cards are less than a tenner mate, I don't get the big appeal. All in all it's a very lack luster announcement but if your needs are using the portable device going from a lite and it appeals to you that's great.

A large amount of feedback has been that this new model should have been the base model from the start.

Nintendo have always done these regular micro upgrades for handhelds, this is just a continuation of that.

How many versions of the DS and 3DS were there? I seem to remember there were loads.

I had most of the 3ds. I think there was the OG then we got the XL. Then there was the 'New' 3Ds and XL which had a slightly higher spec and second analogue stick which like two games made use of.

There was also a few versions of the cheaper 2ds in a few form factors.

I seem to remember there was a DS and a DSi with a camera that came before in multiple versions. I guess technically the DS/I and the 3DS are two different consoles and the software forked the user base eventually.

Wonder if they've improved the wi-fi chip though I doubt it. The current one is insanely bad. May connect at 5Ghz AC but seems to always max out at 60Mbps and this is on a Netgear RAX200 router. Absolutely pathetic wi-fi and about as good as 802.11g.

"New" 2DS XL

You'd think I was joking :o

I'd Just wait for the "New" Nintendo Switch OLED 2DS DSI XL model

I am tempted;l as much as I enjoy the lite, I really struggle to read text on it so this may be a welcome upgrade as I play exclusively handheld.

I definitely struggle with some text in hand held. Not sure that increase is going to make that much difference.
Having gone from a Switch to a lite the text was much easier to read on the 6.2 inch screen over the 5.5 of the Lite so I amazing going up to 7 inch will really help. I have no central vision in my left eye so can only read text with my right eye.

Disappointing but not exactly surprising. Nintendo haven’t gone out of their way to reduce their hardware margins for generations. Probably the only company that makes money on its console.

This kind of feels like it should be a replacement for the base model. Unfortunately I feel its not really for the people who only play it docked mode.

Plus side going forward Nintendo might actually put lan ports in their consoles!
