*** Nintendo Switch ***

Wouldn't this make it hardly any more powerful than the wii u??
If it's just a X1? ..... April all ready? That's got to be just the handheld part, Nintendo can't be that dumb! .. :(

I am still going to take all rumours with caution as I am sure AMD have reported design wins for Nintendo and I also remember reading that it was x86 rather than ARM.
AMD never specified at all what their custom design wins were for. It is likely not their place to disclose these things in the first place.

Nintendo did have a patent for a processing booster for a docked system.

Whether that's something that they'll use is questionable, patents get made for all kinds of potential uses, but it's a possibility.

I'm probably in a small group of people who will buy this almost irrespective of it being a turkey, because I can't resist a Nintendo console. However, I'm quite open to the idea of it being a handheld, because both our 3DS (x3) and Wii U get a lot of use because they don't dominate the TV. If Nintendo can combine their far more successful handheld games, with their home console games, could we see stuff like Pokemon on the TV for once? I initially hated the idea of a combined console, but I'm quite warm to the idea now.

I don't expect super power specs from this device - I'm realistic.

What I do expect however is for Nintendo to put enough horse power into it so that third party devs get on board, that is the key to the success of this thing.

The news on this console gets worse, I was really hoping they'd just do a proper home console with a decent spec and a decent controller. I just get the feeling this will be a jack of all trades and as a result will appeal to few. I also think with this in mind the controller is going to be terrible, like the 3DS in style, which is fine for a bit of mobile gaming but hardly ideal for FPS which is something they need to consider if they hope to attract players. Just sounds like it will be another failed attempt like the Wii U.

Nintendo were almost half way there anyway with the Wii-U screen in the pad.

It would not surprise me if the NX is a handheld with a "cradle" like device that has a more powerful GPU when docked and plugs in to your TV.

Take your games anywhere by undocking, the smaller screen/resolution would enable a lower setting profile to be used to work on the Handheld GPU.

How cost effective that would be I have no idea.

Called it.

I don't buy them putting a chip in the dock to boost performance when docked, I think what we're getting here is single chip in the device running reduced clocks mobile, full clocks docked. Takes care, to some degree, of battery charge depletion concerns too, less clocks = more play time.

Is there any indication that this is anything other than just a 3DS replacement that also has 'TV out' capabilities? I wonder if we will still a traditional home console to replace the Wii U?

No one has a clue, but it's all pointing at some sort of hybrid. And they've confirmed that the new Zelda will be on it, so for it to be as good graphically they'd have to squeeze Wii U graphics into a handheld. Which i suppose is possible, but expensive.

Horsepower doesn't matter that much, it's far more important to have a worthwhile user base, and decent development tools.
