*** Nintendo Switch ***

Gonna pick one up. My ageing switch needs replacing tbh. Or do I wait for the inevitable refresh / new switch 2 :D
I was in the same position, but FOMO and the lack of any announcement from Nintendo about a successor for the Switch pushed me toward picking up the TOTK OLED edition. I don't have any regrets ;the OLED screen is a big upgrade from the original in terms of colour vibrancy & contrast with much better black levels. The screen is also a bit bigger. I still think a new console will be announced at the end of this year or early next year. But very little is known about what Nintendo plans : could there be two separate SKUs - a home console and a handheld ?

I’ll be gutted if it isn’t BC I’ve bought a ton of digital Switch games since launch.
Same, and that will be true for millions of people. Nintendo ditched BC going from Wii to Wii U and lost literally tens of millions of customers in that process. They won't want to face that scenario again - it nearly bankrupt them the last time.

I think/hope Switch 2 will have a decent first party line up.
Metroid 4 (guessing will be on Switch 1)
Mario Kart 9
New Mario platformer
Pokémon (they're pumping this out every few months)

Don't think we'll see a new Zelda due to totk being in development for so long. Or maybe some past Zelda game remake.

If it's based around the same tech then TotK will just probably get bumped to 1080p on Switch 2.

Sorry xaldub but that's wrong the wii u is fully backward compatible with wii games (although it couldn't play gamecube games that the launch wii models could).

If it means that we get a powerful handheld and no BC, I'm for it. Maybe they can implement some kind of emulation?
I think this is how it would have to be if they were going to move on to something else. I know Nintendo can do no wrong* but backwards compatibility has been a staple of pretty much every console they've ever made and locking out their large current fan base really doesn't sound like the best idea.

*By that I mean they seem to get a free pass whenever they do something the fans don't like.

According to MVG it would be hard to have backwards compatibility on a Switch 2 without the original switch hardware
Either that or it would need to be emulated. It's worth a quick watch for his explanation

Yea I watched it couple weeks ago. Wonder how long ninty gonna milk the switch though, weren't their rumours of wind waker and twilight princess remaster?

The Wii U flopped because of poor 1st party games and the console was just so slow.
3 or the top 4 selling Switch games are Wii U games. The Wii U had better first party originals than the Switch.
The Switch was a success because it is a handle with a option to dock it. Nintendo handhelds have always sold well and the Switch is no exception.
