Hmmm yes and no.
If the Nintendo Switch didn't offer anything different from the others...then I would have got one of the others which are already well established.
It's because the Switch offers something different which makes it more ideal to what I am looking for, I am more keen on it
I travel a lot (approximately 20ish flights a year right now) coupled with lots of local travel for work. So having something to keep me occupied whilst on the move would be great.
Secondly. The local multiplayer. Oh my god how much I miss local multiplayer.
I've played lots of AAA titles in the past and yes they are fantastic and fun. But I do believe so many people get so hooked up on resolutions, frame rates, AA, pixel shading and god knows what other technical details that they miss the a big point of gaming.
To me the point of gaming is to have fun. Having fun means playing games. If that Switch has a old 386 cpu with a voodoo graphics card from the 90s but can still play the games then I couldn't give a flying
You get people coming in here "Nintendo are doomed" "They're idiots, they should give up on hardware" "lol ps4 is well better innit" - that is their opinion which they are fully entitled to...but it make me wonder why they bother posting about it anyway when they have zero intention on buying it because it doesn't run whatever graphics chip they were hoping for.
I'm GLAD we have a company like Nintendo which stirs the hornets nest like this. It makes things interesting. It gives people a genuinely different option for those that want something different from the masses.
I was around a friends the other week for a gaming night and all that happened was we each took turns and watched each other player. It would have been waaaay more fun if we all had a controller and were split-screening. I'm not saying we had a bad night, but it would have been better if it wasn't focused so much on looking "totes amazeballs" and gave some flexibility to methods of play. In my opinion. Also big developers know that by NOT doing splitscreening that it forces others to buy the game if they want to play it with their friends, which means more money for them.
From a business point of view of course it makes a lot of sense...from a consumer point of view....well it depends on what you want out of your gaming experience.
Also with your interest into something more powerful - look at the game play videos of games coming out. Do they look like they need more power?
