*** Nintendo Switch ***

Nobody chats to randoms these days anyway. Ze Bantz died. Everyone is in party chat now :(

Nintendo could pioneer the first online smack talk voice channel for its online games that anyone can join, over 18's only of course. Speaking of Pioneer - I'm loving all the warm memories of PSO in this thread, its the one game I truly miss every day.

Im another Nintendo 'owned them all' and its not a purchase for me. My Wii U will play Zelda thankfully. I may have Switched (ho ho!) to this new console if Zelda wasn't on WiiU mind...

Switch is doomed though, just look at what makes consoles work, and what makes portable work. Switch is doing neither properly. Its the iPad of the games world, just, we've had iPads that play games already... With way better battery life... hmm. Your thoughts on that!?

I love the HD rumble though, that is long overdue for any recent generation.

1,2,Switch can go milk itself.

Anyone planning to get any of the accessories? So far got the charging controller pad (since the supplied one doesn't charge the joycons) and the official case with a screen protector.

Also noticed you can get different coloured straps, was tempted to get a couple of the reds for a bit of colour on the grey model but realistically I don't think I'll be using the joycons in that mode that much.

Tempted to get tempered glass as well. Got one for the 3DS which feels a lot better to use for touch.

Might get that case which is the only reasonably priced accessory. But probably not, as I doubt the console will leave the house much. As for rest of the accessories, not buying them at those prices. Would have payed £40 max for the pro controller.

Was thinking, the great thing about Nintendo games are they keep their value well. Once I have a game or two, as I complete/get bored of a game I will sell it, add a tenner or so for the next game. So not to bad when I think of it like that :)

Now that we have all the info about the console and I have let out my disappointment and frustration, I am actually really looking forward for it to arrive with Zelda :D

If Nintendo actually put effort in and support it better than they did the Wii U by releasing more games for it, I do think it would succeed. But trouble is, i am not convinced of that they will. Hope I am wrong.

Even if it fails like the Wii U, I think they will make another personally.

Does anyone know if the Wii U lost them a lot of money?

I think Nintendo price their consoles at profit, compare to say MS and Sony who price them at cost or a loss in order to get them into homes.

Nintendo made a very small profit on each wii u. The issue was they manufactured way more than they sold. I doubt they made money on the console. 3DS on the other hand they did brilliantly on

I wonder what they do with left over consoles, just let them lie about in a warehouse? They can't be useful for much else? Burn them down and use the metals?

A lot of extra consoles are sitting on retailer shelves not being sold. Smyths near me has at least 20 gathering dust.i know they keep a certain number in Japan at offices mint in a sort of archive. They have original famicons unopened. I guess they must recycle them or maybe sell them to companies that can reuse certain parts.

They shipped a million wii u's this year. I highly doubt they sold them in stores. I wonder if retailers suck up the loss or if Nintendo and the company share the hit!?

Sony actually sold PS4 at a small profit from the start this time.

Nintendo will still have loads of money even if this fails like Wii U. They made so much from the Wii that it would take a few failures before they start to get a bit short on cash.

I just have one question for everyone here:

If you could choose between portability, or full on Pascal next gen hardware, which Switch would you want?

(Baring in mind that not going 'full' next gen means a serious lack of 3rd party games - cos the Devs just wont port their games)

We still don't have a confirmation of the hardware inside. We've got rumours and speculation.

Just saying.

But to answer your question. I'd take the Switch as it is now. Seriously.

Why? Because I don't want another XBO/PS machine doing what the others are doing. I want something on the go and locally playable with local multiplayer. As it suits my needs from a gaming machine.

Its not a simple case of porting with Nintendo is it? Hasnt that always been the problem? The weirdness of the hardware makes getting the AAA titles on a Nintendo is insanely time consuming?

.

Be honest, you'd have taken it whichever way it was :p

I'd personally have preferred to see a more powerful home console only, no interest in mobile gaming.

Hmmm yes and no.

If the Nintendo Switch didn't offer anything different from the others...then I would have got one of the others which are already well established.

It's because the Switch offers something different which makes it more ideal to what I am looking for, I am more keen on it :)

I travel a lot (approximately 20ish flights a year right now) coupled with lots of local travel for work. So having something to keep me occupied whilst on the move would be great.

Secondly. The local multiplayer. Oh my god how much I miss local multiplayer.

I've played lots of AAA titles in the past and yes they are fantastic and fun. But I do believe so many people get so hooked up on resolutions, frame rates, AA, pixel shading and god knows what other technical details that they miss the a big point of gaming.

To me the point of gaming is to have fun. Having fun means playing games. If that Switch has a old 386 cpu with a voodoo graphics card from the 90s but can still play the games then I couldn't give a flying :p

You get people coming in here "Nintendo are doomed" "They're idiots, they should give up on hardware" "lol ps4 is well better innit" - that is their opinion which they are fully entitled to...but it make me wonder why they bother posting about it anyway when they have zero intention on buying it because it doesn't run whatever graphics chip they were hoping for.

I'm GLAD we have a company like Nintendo which stirs the hornets nest like this. It makes things interesting. It gives people a genuinely different option for those that want something different from the masses.

I was around a friends the other week for a gaming night and all that happened was we each took turns and watched each other player. It would have been waaaay more fun if we all had a controller and were split-screening. I'm not saying we had a bad night, but it would have been better if it wasn't focused so much on looking "totes amazeballs" and gave some flexibility to methods of play. In my opinion. Also big developers know that by NOT doing splitscreening that it forces others to buy the game if they want to play it with their friends, which means more money for them.

From a business point of view of course it makes a lot of sense...from a consumer point of view....well it depends on what you want out of your gaming experience. :)

Also with your interest into something more powerful - look at the game play videos of games coming out. Do they look like they need more power?

Fair enough.

Regarding power, you can always use more power. I'm all good with the system not being another COD/BF/Etc machine as I already have a One & PS4 but if it was a home console only with enough grunt to kick out Zelda (or whatever) at 60fps, i'd prefer it over the option to go mobile.

I was very close to pre ordering yesterday, mainly because 'zomgosh new' but managed to restrain myself. Might look again at the end of the year.
