*** Nintendo Switch ***

Yes, it'll probably be close to insta-buy for me also. I've not played my Switch so much in 2024, just due to playing loads of other things and limited time, but I've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours on the thing since release, through 3 hardware revisions (OG, Animal Crossing Special Edition revised, OLED) and the new one is a no-brainer, especially if its got backwards compatibility and maybe even performance boosts for the titles I've not got round to yet in my Switch library (which between me and the wife is pretty huge at this point).

Handheld gaming with the opportunity to dock is an amazing formula, and I'm glad it looks like they are sticking with it.

So far I've skipped this Xbox/PS5 generation, I think a new Switch will be my next console. Don't really care for Nintendo games themselves, I don't think I actually own one for my Switch, I'm just hoping we get the great ports from older systems that the Switch has had carrying on - Portable PS4/Xbone era games please!

Why even bother with the switch then, there are plenty of other handhelds out there that can do what you want and probably better. Though I see you did play BOTW and Mario Wonder, both of course being Nintendo games.

Think a Switch 2 will be an instant buy for me. Got a load of PC ports to play that presumably will benefit from the better hardware. Like that's there plenty of bargains on the shop these days and the portability for th kids is a no brainer.

+1 though I've bought every Nintendo console at launch (other than the Wii U) since the 90s so I guess that isn't unusual for me!

I'm not particularly bothered by the mobile aspect of it either really as I like playing games on a big screen on the couch. For me it's mainly about the Nintendo exclusive titles. Nice to have the flexibility of it being portable aswell though even if I personally rarely use it handheld.

Didn't say I hadn't played any, just that I don't own any. You'll also see that neither game was for me.

My Steam Deck has made the Switch a little redundant, but there isn't anything else I could buy that would allow me to play the games I have in the way I do. I very very rarely use it docked, but it's nice to know I can, it's been a fantastic bit of kit.

I'm guessing you're referring to the various "retro" handhelds? If so, no they couldn't have done the same or better.

My bad, when you said you were looking forward to playing Mario Wonder, I assumed you had bought it for yourself as you were looking forward to it.
No I'm referring to the myriad of handhelds more powerful than the aging deck, it feels like there is a new one coming out each week to be honest.
There are the ones from the bigger brands like Asus, MSI and Lenovo but also those lesser-known brands that seem to always have the latest and greatest mobile hardware in them.

Personally, not bothered about fps - that was in my youth. The Deck and the Switch are great - even for aging hardware

I've gone the opposite way now. I have less time to play games so I require a higher standard than I would have accepted when I was younger. 30 FPS = not playing in most cases.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking as well; I've picked up a load of stuff when eShop sales have been on with an eye to Switch 2 and hopefully better performance for all Switch 1 games on the new device.

Speaking of smash mrk reckons this game is far better. I haven't played them so I wouldn't know.
Just mention it in case somebody wasn't aware of it. I mean I'd never heard of it So maybe of interest to people here.

Haven't played much of Mario Kart for a good while, so I decided to jump on some online races tonight. I managed a 3rd at best, every other time I ended up near last or even last! Most frustating when you are on the main straight, 3rd lap and finish line in sight, then you get hit with something and go from the top 4 to the bottom 3.

On topic of racing games, has anyone played or play Rush Rally 3? I picked it up a couple of days ago and it runs really well and decent enough graphics for the Switch. They have an online leaderboard you can join that's cross platform, I think the event up now has just under 100 active players. Most probably on either the mobile version of the game and some on PC, not too bad really.
