*** Nintendo Switch ***

Had a go with one yesterday, and as cool as it is in terms of a new gadget. I'm glad I didn't buy one.

It just wouldn't be something I use in a tablet form unless the girlfriend is watching the TV, but even then I've never been able to get immersed in to a game on a handheld so doubt that would change now. Also, Zelda was just horrendous on the TV, slowdowns pretty much all the time meant it wasn't fun to play.

I'll pick one up when they're less than £200, probably around Christmas time as I think it would be good for my son to get involved with the type of games that will come out for it.

Another review/first impressions, this time from AngryJoe, known for getting hit by Nintendo's copyright BS before (he literally says that he will cover this console and review it's games, but will stop if Nintendo pulls their BS again, despite fair use and all that).

There's a lot he seems to like about it and it's a fairly honest and fair review. One thing I have noticed is that universally, a lot of people hate the cheap feel of the kickstand and some are suggesting that it's designed that way to allow for 3rd party replacement kickstands to do a better job of it.

$500/£500 feels a bit too much for the base console, a couple of games and a Pro controller. Some people say that the WiiU was overpriced at launch and I'll admit that I feel slightly mugged for paying £360 for my WiiU with 2 games and it's pro controller. But compared to this, it's not so bad, even when taking into account the currency differences.

It's the accessories that really feel like a ripoff, after seeing what the stand really is, I don't believe it costs more than £10 to produce, so they must be making ridiculous profit on those spare docks.

I'm glad I've not bought this, though I can easily afford it. I just don't want to support bad pricing and a half-baked release. The Switch isn't feature complete in itself (Nintendo admit they will add a lto of features later on), besides the lack of games.

I managed to get the Nintendo Switch + Zelda + Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + Pro controller + 2 Steering wheels for under £400 so not sure the £500 figure is accurate. Even if you consider I got some discounts which were available to those who kept their eyes and ears open, it still would not be £500.

I appreciate your honesty on the performance issues, only one or two youtubers have commented on the frame drops it so was wondering if others experienced it too.

I really want a Switch however right now I'm thinking I'll grab Zelda Breath of the Wild on the WiiU instead and see what comes and how it runs in the months to come

Just hope it does not run like crap like it did for drunkenmaster.

If I never sold my wii u a year ago (very glad I did), then I would also just get Zelda on wii u and wait at the very least until Black Friday before buying the switch.

It gets choppy at times in long grass but it happens rarely so I'm not too bothered by it. It happens on every console and probably always will - for example I played Everybody's Gone to The Rapture (PS4) on Friday whilst waiting for my delivery and the performance was pretty bad at times, but I still enjoyed the game. It'll be interesting to see how games hold up that were designed specifically for the Switch and not the Wii U.

DO NOT PUT THE WRIST STRAP CONNECTORS ON THE WRONG JOYCON!!!

I did, instant regret, thought I'd snap it taking it off! It was WEDGED on. It can be removed, but it's not easy. So make sure you get it on the right one.

I love my Switch and Zelda but I'm no crazy fanboy apologist, I'm not fussed about Netflix or a crap web browser but how no one at Nintendo flagged the dock scratching issue in all the time they've been working on this blows my mind...

The first time I went to slide it in I was being very careful and looking how the dock would guide the Switch in and was amazed when I saw it was just plastic and not even finished smoothly.

I think they do know about it but imagine it was a cost cutting exercise and would have cost too much for them to retool, I bet they wish they had as this is going to get a lot of bad publicity and a shed load of returns.

Hell, even if you scratch the screen with your keys you might as well blame the dock and force Nintendo or the retailer to replace it, it will obviously count as a manufacturing defect that existed at the time it was purchased under the consumer rights act.

At the moment my only complaint is that they didn't design it with two kick stands, its wobbly as hell on a sofa arm or anything not perfectly flat like a table, which would have been resolved with a second stand on the opposite side.

I don't get price complaints it seems pretty spot on to me for what you are buying, if I didn't have £200 in club card vouchers laying around I probably would have waited a while before picking one up as I generally prefer to buy all my games 2nd hand these days and then sell them on once done, but for a game like Zelda I don't mind paying full price now and again.

Yeah I know what you mean, I have tablet stand that I picked up from Amazon for £6.99 a while back which should work better - https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-IPM-TAB1-AMZ-Adjustable-Tablet-Stand/dp/B006ZT4VA0

Found the Apple Smart Cover to mostly be a waste of time beside giving a bit of protection, as a stand it was rubbish and this solved the problem of watching stuff in bed.

I doubt it, there were only a few guys in there. It did make the time fly by though and the whole point of the console is to play it where you want!
Indeed, I and probably 99% of the people in this thread would agree with you. But in case you missed it, my post was in reference what a guy a week or so ago said. Lol

If people think the Switch is expensive then they are going to be in for a shock for the foreseeable future with any major electrical release.

True, with the currency movements it's actually.not priced too badly. Anything forward is only going to be more expensive, expect the pound to drop further again once Article 50 is triggered this month.

Expensive "for what it is" is more the tone of the pricing comments.

Yep and we going have to get used to it. When it comes to tech, we will be paying more for less.

Sadly this is true, looking forward to all the comments when MS announce the Scorpio price.

The days of £37.99 launch game prices are becoming rare. I managed to pick up Zelda for Switch and Wii U for £40 each......after using discount codes. Never had to do that years ago.
