Well he could have access playing in on a handheld just now and it wouldn't cost him that much? I'm not quite understanding your point.
He has a Switch (I think) I don't know if he has which other platform you're referring to where it can be handheld (I'm guessing Vita or DS maybe, ah google confirms the Vita. Cool)
If he doesn't, he would need to invest in another console, and then the game on top.
He already owns the Switch and if he hasn't already played it through then it makes sense to buy it on the Switch, no? (unless of course the price will be more than buying an entirely separate console and game)
Take me for example. I don't own any console right now. The best thing I have for gaming is my work laptop and that is locked down pretty tight so I won't be installing any games on that. Otherwise its my rMBP so its not that easiest thing to game on. The last console I had I sold in 2015 before going travelling. I haven't had a gaming PC for...well actually about a decade now!
Yes Rayman Legends is a port (and is already available on handheld) but if its a good game why
not bring it to another platform? Bigger user base for the developer and more people get to enjoy it. There are some of us who will only be able to play it on the NS. The NS will be our only option.
These ports of older games are an issue for those who have played them to death already on other platforms and want something new and fresh (and I completely agree with that, but also know these things take time) Otherwise it's a new experience, without inventing a new game for it. Can totally see why the devs are doing it.
