*** Nintendo Switch ***

So my Switch arrived today, wasn't going to bother until more games came out but as much as I tried I couldn't resist Zelda and with Minecraft and Stardew coming - I caved at the weekend. Really impressed so far. Also ordered Saturday afternoon from Nintendo, arrived today which is impressive since it was Easter weekend and it was Yodel who delivered it

Just read the Eurogamer review for Wonderboy, looks really good.

Do you guys think it is worth buying? (I have never played the original version).

I've been thinking about it. Good reviews and comments on GAF from those playing it. Seems quite short though so I don't know if it's worth the money...

It's only worthwhile if you have any nostalgia for the original version. It's simply a reskinned master system game, even though I loved it back in the day, I somewhat regret paying £18 for it now.

It's good, but incredibly basic for the price of a modern game.

Well I've sold my "New" 3DSXL in prep for when I go States and hopefully pick up a Switch, completely obsessed with getting one to the point the other half is getting bored talking to me LOL.

Wonder if they will try and implement more "tablet" features to the Switch, it's a trick missed if not as I would have been prepared to sell my iPad.

Nope, not until they announce Virtual Console which probably wont be till E3.

But Virtual Console is coming as Nintendo announced they have discontinued the Nes Classic, rumour has it to stop it clashing with the Virtual Console coming to the Switch.

I think they probably have a SNES mini in the pipeline to be honest.

Switch 2.2.0 firmware out - Nintendo patch notes are as vague as ever :p

Did it include stability updates? It's become a meme on one of the 3DS subreddits, since it's been ages since Nintendo released an update that actually does something useful for the end-user. Usually these updates are just security updates patching up potential exploit routes to prevent things like homebrew.

From what I've read, Nintendo added on the Switch to their bounty program (the one where you get money for telling Nintendo of any security flaws, etc) and 3 people have already found/submitted info to them. My bet is Nintendo is patching those up before Switch goes the way of the 3DS and becomes super easy to customise/homebrew.

I think they probably have a SNES mini in the pipeline to be honest.

At this point only scalpers would be happy about that. Heck, scalpers are Nintendo's best friend. They prefer selling their products to scalpers than actual people who want use the product/play the games it seems.

How can you blame Nintendo for simply selling their products? Are they supposed to interview their buyers individually to ensure that they don't resell them on? I appreciate a cap on quantity at checkout would help, but even then, folk will just create multiple users.

I'm getting quite annoyed at the pricing structure of indie and old remakes of games which are coming out for the Switch. They are simply priced too high. Take Ultra Street Fighter 2 for instance, £35?

I could easily get 35 hours of enjoyment out of Ultra Street Fighter 2! That's how I look at it, anyway.

Out of curiosity who has played the switch 'on the go' yet? I think the 'portable gaming' market has somewhat been killed by the smartphones (or at least my interest in it has been killed) but, in any case, the only opportunity you otherwise get is on the plane and on the train... handheld mode is mostly on the sofa :p

Guess I am just a gaming snob, but this sort of thing always makes me cringe. smartphones games are for the most part not 'portable gaming' but just timewasters in situations you are so bored you figure you may as well play some piece of garbage. As a gamer I feel unreasonably disgusted when someone references smartphones and 'gaming', I feel the urge to roll up a newspaper and tap someone on the head saying 'no!' like I would a dog that pee'd indoors

I agree with you, I don't really associate a smartphone with portable gaming.. for me the Switch, 3DS and Vita are examples of mobile gaming which is why I will always get a dedicated console to play them on.

Until the day I see Nintendo (or another major developer) build a AAA title game for a smartphone/tablet than I'm afraid I won't consider it a gaming platform.

If the Switch was exclusively portable, I wouldn't have bought it. Thankfully, there's still a demand for a conventional home console. Personally, I'm looking forward to being able to play a fully fledged Pokémon game on a big TV!
