*** Nintendo Switch ***

I was disappointed in both the Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo have a lot of ground to make up for me to consider one, having a proper online account system will be a major thing that will determine if I purchase one too.

If it is the Tegra X2, then performance should easily be somewhere between PS3/XB360 and PS4/XBone levels. Probably closer to the PS4/XBone.

The Nvidia Shield could run Doom 3 BFG at 1080p at 60fps. Not the most recent game, but 1080p certainly seems possible.

Any news on this? Was rumoured to be X2 by some a while back so fingers crossed.

Only thing we know is that it's a custom Tegra.

Could be X1 with more cores and a ramped up clockspeed when plugged into the mains for 1080p and downclock and shut off cores to 720p when mobile...

Could be the X2/Pascal architecture. Could even be the Xavier version, unlikely but possible. But Nvidia say it's custom, so until someone get hold of one we won't really know.

Something to consider, the X1 will be 2 years old when the Switch is released. That probably rules it out in it's standard configs.

Do we even know how powerful the X2 is? I assume the chip is pretty small, anything to stop a further one being in the console itself?

It's quite exciting.

Yea, and any exclusives like The Last of Us 2 on PlayStation I just borrow my friends PS4 for a week or two :)

Hope the Switch is close to or matches Xbone performance.

Yeah I had a PS4, pretty much for exclusives but the only one I wanted was months away so I gave it to a friend. In the end I told him just to buy it off me. I'll wait till I can get all the exclusives at the end of the life cycle.

I think i could be on board with this. I am more up for new concepts rather than what the "big boys" are doing with iterations on current consoles mainly to increase visuals. This could offer interesting ways to play games who knows

That said i didnt greatly enjoy the wii u, i found it to be flawed in many ways. If this can right some of those wrongs and really give us a strong launch lineup i can see myself ordering one over anything else

From what I gather the x2 in its current car centric state sits at around 80% of the power in an Xbox one. Customise that by removing the car/nav stuff, add more GPU cores, its extremely possible you're looking at current gen console performance in your pocket.

We'll get a rough idea in January as nvidia are set to release a new shield device using a varient of the x2 then.

I wonder what api and os backend they'll go for too.

If this is based on pascal then it is possible it might match an xbox for power! Nvidia have been putting the full fat desktop GPUs into laptops which goes to show just how efficient their latest chips are. It will certainly show up MS and Sony thats for sure! Even at release the current gen consoles were horribly under powered. Its also good to see nvidia back in the console game.

Would love to see something close to an Xbox one in a handheld. Let's see what they can bring. I'll be on the look out for spec leaks.

Well I'm a bit doubtful they'll be able to display the kind of visuals we're now seeing on XB1 (Halo 5, FH3, Gears 4, BF1 etc) but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Uhh you're forgetting cooling and power delivery not to mention battery life & ofc wattage envelope of a handheld is much smaller than what NV demo Tegras at.

I can't wait that long! Although I knew it was coming. At least I can hold off and save some money for a nice bundle. I decided at the last minute to not buy the PSVR, I'm more excited about this as I do game a lot on a portable even in my own house.

Good thing they said that. It will quell any rumours claiming to know the price or exact release date of that thing. That said, I'm pretty sure Nintendo themselves said it would release at the end of March. I'd brace yourselves, cos you know whqat it's like when it comes to pricing on Nintendo products. This will be at least £300 easy. Above £400 if the dock isn't optional. Consider the 'unpopular' Nvidia Shield going for no less than £200 currently for an example.

I'd like to be proven wrong, but we'll see.

I don't see this being above £400! Do you really think it will be with the dock included? The Switch will almost certainly come with the dock, being as this is marketed as a home console you can take anywhere.

can't see it being offered without the dock, that's not the point of it

It really does look like a compelling package to me.

I pretty much buy everything nintendo have made in terms of hardware (and then under-use it). This is a way more exciting release than anything they've done since n64 for me.

Is there any sign of Nintendo relaxing their policy of taking down YouTube channels showing their content? It seems kind of bizarre in 2016.

I may pick one up depending on launch games and wouldn't pay any more than £300 personally.
