*** Nintendo Switch ***

They're not going to announce a fully-fledged Pokémon RPG on the Switch after the announcement of Pokkén Tournament, are they? Even Ultra Moon/Sun will be exclusively for the 3DS.
I was actually referring to other announcements, not Pokemon :)

I'm not into regular Pokemon games but I do love Pokken!. Played ~50hrs of it on WiiU but will probably pick it up again. Apparently there will be a demo next week too.

I think this direct was just to get the (underwhelming) Ultra Sun/Moon announcements out of the way and build up a little excitement before E3.

A mainline Pokemon game is coming for Switch. There will be some surprises at E3 for sure, I wouldnt bet on Pokemen but its not impossible. I'd guess Pokemon is next year as they've got plenty this year already to sell consoles at Christmas, with Zelda, MK8, Splatoon2, Arms, Mario, Xenoblade2(presumably), Mario+Rabbids, plus whatever the unannounced stuff is.

Wow this was very disappointing IMO. All the Switch gets is yet another port of a WiiU game and a spinoff at that. Pokken is no Smash Bros, I actually tried the demo and it wasn't particularly amazing or anything.

Many are saying that Gold/Silver on eShop was the best bit, I'd probably have to agree.

The UltraSun and UltraMoon bit was the most insulting though. Let alone the fact that it's not on Switch and is on 3DS instead, they decide to pull a gen 5 and split the 3rd game? Split the original game, fair enough, but split the sequel now you're getting greedy. And it even caused confusion in Gen 5 as people who bought the opposite sequel got the same version exclusives (aka White -> Black 2 similar). Heck, this time they aren't even featuring the 3rd Pokemon anymore. It seems since XY, they seem to be giving 3rd legendaries the short end of the stick ...and after the disappointing lack of narrative to go with Necrozma in SuMo.

3DS won't be going anywhere soon, it shouldn't be either imo.

By the looks of this announcement, I beg to disagree. Looks to me like games launching on the 3DS = games not launching on Switch. Development time isn't really an excuse either, since they're managing to port over more complex WiiU games to Switch rather quickly and even Monster Hunter from 3DS is being ported over by August. The models and data in Sun/Moon are actually downscaled from HD, the HD models already exist and you can even see them on a Youtube video where someone upscales SuMo to 1080p on an emulator on PC.

I knew this would go one way or the other... I guess this could be an omen of another disappointing E3. If they didn't give us Pokemon on Switch, now I'm highly doubting that we'll get Metroid or other anticipated game annonucements at E3.

You're like a schizophrenic. One minute you're on board, deciding to buy out god knows what accessories and running after the hype train. One 6 minute video later and you're predicting it's inevitable doom :p

People are complaining about the ports, but clearly it is a good seller for the business. MK8 had approx a 50% take up on the Wii U. MK8D has a much higher percentage due to the way the big N are playing their strategy. So they're bringing in money that was lost to the game developers due to the Wii U being such a flop. This is good for business AND shareholders. This renews interest and builds hype to allow for development of new Switch only games.

Business aside, the ports are allowing people to play games they might have never otherwise touched or owned. How is that a bad thing? They're also running better on the Switch as well and offers a different way of playing it...IE, on the go.

I also disagree with you on the 3DS. If they were to just drop the 3DS and just move games to the Switch this would be bad. Currently Nintendo cannot keep up with the demand for the system. So taking away content from their enormous amount of 3DS customers when:

- They can't find a Switch very easily to replace it with
- They might not want to shell out for a another console (the parents especially)

Which is why I think its still important for Nintendo to keep making 3DS content. If only at least they release a successor (which could be a Switch Mini, that would make a lot of switch to me) :)

I agree, it wasn't the best announcement. If they released a fully fledged Pokemon MMO on the Switch they'd be laughing all the way to the bank, but who knows...one might be on the drawing board right now :p

E3 I am still excited for. If anything if they're using the direct to get smaller announcements like this out of the way, it gives them more time on the actual day to announce other stuff. We will see in like a few days! :p

Just give me a new amazing metroid game for the switch and to hell with all this other sub par rubbish.

Tempted. But want to try it first. Unsure if its for me!

I also should buy the Switch first really...

It's been out on the WiiU for a while and is an excellent fighting game made by the Tekken team (hence the name).

Is it of the same standard as Tekken though? As that to me is by far the best fighting game. I have zero interest in Pokémon blahdeblah whatever, so did not care about this Direct, but if it is a fighting game and of Tekken standard...well, I may be interested

It'll be a bit like Bomberman and MK - the amount of fun you'll get out of Arms be directly proportional to the no. of ppl you know with a Switch to play it with. The Switch is the ultimate school/university device - groups of mates in the same room, drinking, eating pizza and battling it out! For this reason alone I hope the Switch is a success - as fun as online gaming can be, it doesn't hold a candle to local play with friends.

It's simpler than Tekken but I was blown away by the depth for a Nintendo fighting game. This is certainly not Smash Bros or Arms.

Sorry for getting caught up in the heat of the moment, the result was a rage rant (though by the looks of it you also seemed to overreact too, no hard feelings). I have nothing against the Switch and still plan to buy one for games like Monster Hunter, MK8D, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2... and I still feel the Switch is revolutionary hardware... an amazing portable device especially. I still dislike Nintendo as a company though. I don't like their erratic swings in decisions and the seeming lack of software push behind Switch (they're holding back the big games like Pokemon). Which is why I'm now considering the possibility of a bad E3. There's all the chance that the 3DS has more games revealed than Switch now, when the Switch needs it a lot more.

By the sounds of that, I'm only mirroring Nintendo's own moves lol... One minute they're doing good things and everybody is hyped and the next they do something that gets people scratching their heads. I generally don't get hyped for things or take notice of rumours, if only because of getting burned by hope many a time before. But this time, I watched a lot of prediction videos and such before the Direct and everybody thought there would at least be a main game on Switch. I just want good Switch games.

What made it all the more viable (and hyped) was the Monster Hunter port. If Capcom can port 3DS Monster Hunter to Switch by August, then surely Nintendo's 1st party can do the same thing for Pokemon. Development time is not an excuse if a 3rd party can do it. If Monster Hunter could have cross play between Switch and 3DS, then surely Pokemon could too.

I still disagree with you on the 3DS, despite owning one. It's not just Pokemon, but other franchises have been restricted by the 3DS hardware. What annoyed me most about the Direct though, was the double sequel. It used to be that Pokemon games had one big 3rd game combining all the best bits and starring a different Legendary. The split into 2 games again is insulting, especially when one considers that these Pokemon games could have released on both Switch and 3DS (one version each). As much as I dislike the 3DS, even I know that would be the best option to make everybody happy and give everybody a game to look forward to.

I was preparing to play Gen 7 Pokemon at least 3 times to get the full experience (once each game), but now that would require 4 playthroughs. I've not had time to start a 2nd playthrough on the 2nd game, no way would I ever get time to do so with a 4th game... especially now that Monster Hunter is coming and especially if Xenoblade 2 releases this year. That one requires a ton of time to get to all the content. So I will for sure pass on those 3DS titles, as I would be too busy playing Switch games by then.

I think it may be important for Nintendo to make a big statement with Pokemon on Switch, and I'm not sure a port of a 3DS game is the best way to go about that. Patience is a virtue :).

Nintendo (or any developer/publisher for that matter) don't have unlimited resources, they have to spread releases out and it takes a lot of time and effort to develop games (even ports can be complex). With or without Pokemon though I feel Switch is going to have a very strong first year in terms of exclusive games, perhaps one of the best of any console.

Personally, I have more than enough great games to keep me busy and I don't even have a PS4 yet. Between Switch and PC I feel like I'm drowning already :o.
