*** Nintendo Switch ***

A year later (failed miserably to get one this time last year) and I finally have a Switch, along with Mario Odyssey and Zelda

Couple with a Quest 2 - this is turning out to be a smashing birthday.

Very nice, also had a switch and those games this week and Odyssey Plus earlier this year.

Do yourself a favour and buy Half Life Alyx. The last 4 or 5 sections are worth it alone, truly breathtaking.

What's everyone experience been with Nintendo repairs in terms of turn around time? Need to send my one of my joycons off to be repaired (not drift, something else and it's still under warranty). Moving house in a few weeks so don't know whether to hold off until after the move to avoid problems with where to post it.

I bought a 2nd hand Switch in mid-September off eBay for £250 which included Pokémon Shield. I'm not a huge Pokémon fan except for the ones that you see in Super Smash Bros (Pikachu etc), so I traded that in and exchanged it for Super Mario Party.

I posted on page 219 about Super Mario Party, and almost most people agreed that it was a lazy update for the series, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Got over 50 hours playtime on it now. I like the new mini-games and the extra game modes such as the river survival and there are plenty of unlocks to figure out. The only bit that was lacking was the number of boards which is 3, plus 1 unlockable. Anyway, the biggest surprise for me was a new character (for me anyway) called Rosalina. She wears a light blue dress, looks a bit like a mage and she looks massive compared to Princess Peach, and in fact compared to most of the male characters too :D

Anyway, I thought I'd update the thread now on page 220 with my findings. I later worked out that Rosalina first appeared in a Mario Bros game called Galaxy and people were discussing it on page 219 as it's part of the revised/emulated 3D All-Stars set (Mario 64 / Sunshine / Galaxy). So I grabbed it from Amazon last week for £40. Mario 64 was the game I already knew as I played it on a friend's N64 a few times back in late 99 / early 2000. I decided to jump straight to Galaxy as the first game to play from the 3D All-Stars. I absolutely DIG the wrap-around gameplay, kinda reminds me of "Tiny Planet" (search for "Tiny Planet" on YouTube so you get what I mean). Back to Rosalina, she seems to be a support character in the game, pointing Mario in the right direction and giving objectives.

Games that I've bought for the Switch since mid-September:

- Super Mario Party, £0 as it was exchanged from Pokémon Shield
- 1 2 Switch, £28 from CEX
- 51 Worldwide Games, £30 new
- Zelda Link's Awakening, £35 new from Amazon
- Super Bomberman R, £12 new from Amazon
- Super Smash Bros Ultimate, £40 from eBay
- Super Mario 3D All-Stars, £40 from Amazon

On its way:

- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, £37 from Currys
- Super Mario Odyssey, £37 from Currys

I used SWGAME10 to get 10% off so that they become £33.29 each. The only caveat is that you have to buy 2 games to qualify, hence these 2 titles.

So yes, I'm loving everything I've bought, except perhaps from Bomberman. I bought it from the nostalgia but I'm not quite feeling it yet. Will need to give it a few more tries. For me, Nintendo will always be about their own titles like Mario Bros, Mario Party, Zelda etc.

You should really try out some of the indie darlings like Celeste and shovel knight.

There are some brilliant third party games such as Rayman, Skyrim, Doom, Bayonetta, and Mario + Rabbids. Edit: and Ori!

You have a lot of Mario games but Nintendo also made the excellent Pikmin, Splatoon, and Donkey Kong too.

Hi Kreeeeee(eeeeeeee)!

Thanks for the tip-offs. I was actually going to look up Splatoon, although more specifically Splatoon 2. Will have to compare both by looking up gamplay videos on YouTube. I'm also looking at other Zelda games, again specifically Breath of the Wild and I think a BOTW2 is being announced at some point. I'm also waiting for Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 7/8 remastered. Although they were all PSX games, I was always a PC gamer before the Switch, so I only ever played FF 7/8 on the PC and I never played Kingdom Hearts at all.

Back to Mario, I'm also looking forwards to Super Mario 3D World (Wii:U remake) + Bowser's Fury which is announced for February 2021 and is on pre-order for £50. Not sure if I'll pre-order or wait for a price drop first, as I try not to pay more than £40 per game.

All of my games btw are on physical format.

The way Nintendo games hold their value is insane. The kids have shown an interest in Arms for Christmas and it's still going for £40.
If anyone has a copy they fancy sticking on the MM let me know. :D

They hold their value because Nintendo rarely discounts games and when they do, its a 30% off but they use the full RRP.

You have always been able to get all first part games for ~£40 but they are often £50/60 on the e-shop.

When they discount them they come down to ~£33 even with a hefty discount.

Don't get me started on their love of porting games and charging you full price for them

You can hardly blame them. Mario Kart is still in the top ten in most territories after almost four years!

Yeah it'll be fine. a lot of switch games don't hit 1080P docked anyway.

That's interesting, and I think what you said here answers one of my questions: The screenshots and videos that I take only come out as 720p in docked mode. The games that I have tried it on so far are Super Smash Bros, Super Mario Party, Zelda: Link's Awakening and Mario Galaxy (from 3D All-Stars). Does it mean that all of these games are in 720p docked or does the screenshot facility only save in 720p by default?

I dont know but many switch games use dynamic resolution, dropping resolution when FPS dips to try and smooth out the frame rate.

Smash runs 1080P constantly though so sounds like its not the reason.

Looks like others have found the same:

Its likely the screenshot facility is only 720p. As many if not all of the titles listed are 1080p docked. Galaxy is I think dynamic resolution.

So far I only have BoTW, Pokemon Sword and Elder Scrolls Blade. Any game suggestions are welcome. I did look at Animal Crossing again but not sure if it's a game I can play mostly solo?

Mainly into RPG/Puzzle stuff.
