No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Well, against my morals thought I'd check out the update this morning.

Update is a nice start, definitely looks better and permadeath mode should be the only mode ppl play if they want a deeper experience, it's enjoyable trying to survive. My first planet was -80 and I had 11 minute walk to get to my ship. Trying to get there was very interesting running from cave to cave trying to find the right resources.

While it's still not something I'm going to invest a lot of time in yet, at least this is a step in right direction. Hopefully next big update improves the game just as much.

Do you have to wipe your save game for the new content to show up properly, also have the graphics improved at all as when i go in game the textures etc look no different to me?

if you put graphics on Ultra, they are supposedly 4k textures then. I'm definitely seeing a nice improvement to them.

I tried it out again a couple of days ago, 3440x1440 and the UI is all still stretched.

Putting the graphics on max looked better but the frame rate was terrrible, not at all playable and looked pretty poor when turned down again. Couldn't be bothered to try out any content out of that.

Looks nice in the screenshots above although the draw distance is very poor compared to other open world games with lots of fauna.

just a tip Muska/everyone, which helped me a lot with performance. Go to "Binaries" folder, open the "TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML" file and change "TexturePageSizeKb" value= to whatever your cards VRAM is and save. In my case it's "TexturePageSizeKb" value="8192", change that to whatever yours is. Gave me a much smooth experience when running the game on Ultra.

I get around 50fps on planet surfaces, which feels ok to me due to my Freesync. Not bad for a 390 @ 1440p running Ultra everything with TAA on low.

I run at 3440x1440 and have tested with the games settings on ultra, and as has been said the fps is terrible.
I tried 2560x1440 and although better fps it just seems to me to look, well bad lol i will take some screenies tomorrow and let you see what i see.

It'll be fine, haven't you got a 1080ti coming today? :)

Performance whilst not being where we'd like on pc, it's not terrible...it's not an ARK.

The first 2 are without wiping my save from when the game first released but taken just now loaded from my save game.
The next 2 are from a new survival game started last night to see if graphics were any better/different with all new content incase a game wipe was necessary.

yeah they are bad i see now. Can't you just knock down the 4xSSAA? I'm running just Low TAA everything else maxed at 1440p and to be honest I don't notice any jaggies at all..I'm hitting 50fps on planet surfaces for reference, will hop on and take a screenie sometime today. Surely with your 1080 you should see 80fps or 90fps considering a 1080 twice the card of a 390.

Did you do the edit to the config file I posted above?

a few varying with a nice big overlay :) Focus was on the structures and trees to get the low FPS, had drops to around 43fps which was about as low as I could get it with trees, sun shafts, structures, effects on screen. Like I said Ultra everything, 1440p but with low TAA. This is about as high as I could put my settings to keep inside my Freesync range.

Baron planets 50fps+ (screenie below is 51fps if you can't make it out whit the light)

And in space, inside structures and ships I get a solid 60fps which I've capped, no need for more in this game. Obviously you are running a higher res with that ultra wide, but a 1080 should murder this game. I'd definitely knock that 4xssaa down, that's just massively excessive but I understand the reason for you doing that. I gotta take what I get on a single 390 as crossfire obviously not working. Hurry up Vega lol

Ok edited the file and turned to low TAA im getting better fps (60 to 70) walking around outside.

I need to visit more planets etc as im just not feeling the graphics at present, some of the textures seem blurry to me.

I will increase my overlay size and take some more screenies.

Thanks for taking the time to compare and respond.

yeah they are blurry, its not one of those crystal clear sharp as a pin games, or not what I've seen anyway. Maybe a Sweetfx preset will clean up the blur.
