No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

^^ I fear this might just be more of a technical demo than a fun game. After seeing the 20th variation of common themes, will plants and animals be of any interest? Which then leaves the core gameplay... which is?

I hope this turns out as amazing as i imagine it can be. Even if it hasn't much depth, just flying around will be entertaing... for a while.

not sure how much of a "game" this will actually be. While it looks lovely i get the impression that it might end up a bit like Mass Effect 1 when visiting different planets just end up being a copy/paste of each other with similar locals being reused just in a different layout.

Will prob end up picking it up on console also if i do go for it.

I'm sure there are those more excited than I by this but nonetheless I am very intrigued.

The reason my own excitement is not sky high is that, while this looks potentially amazing, for me it's not clear what the actual aim is other than exploration. I just need some sort of end-game. Not too rush through it, not to hunt for achievements but just to focus the gameplay...

It doesn't appear that they are going with a combat element and I don't blame them as you can get that in umpteen other places but will there be a trade aspect..? Contact and diplomacy with alien races..? Or just discovering new worlds and (while that could be immense)... nothing else.

I'll be keeping an eye on its development to find out.

Edit: Grrr... embedded video fail above :(

It's a new World Premiere video from The Game Awards.

It will come to PC eventually Sony unlike MS do not usually block games coming to PC which are not Sony first party developed ;)

Aye, my expectations just took a dramatic hit for this game after seeing the latest trailers. No sign of gameplay at all in there. The cartoony ship designs are terribad :(

Agree about the gameplay, but ship designs are procedural to an extent as well, so you won't always get something perfect. Also, this isn't Elite or SC, so don't expect realistic designs.

I am currently intrigued by The Big Three, being Elite: D, Star Citizen and No Man's Sky.

It makes life a little difficult knowing what we do about each game in its current state of development, as we don't really know enough about any of the "final products" for me to be able to choose between them.

I will literally have no life if I end up playing more than one at once, so I guess I'll just have to start with E: D and hope it's good.

I really do fancy the exploration aspect of NMS, though. I'm one of those gamers for whom, just sometimes, hardcore gaming mechanics like combat or trading, do seem to get in the way of me relaxing and simply having a good time.

Seen a lot of posts on here saying to many space sims at once.

Elite releases in just over a week, No mans sky hasn't even got a PC release date and Star Citizen years away.:)

I know ;) It's just that all the buzz/hype seems to be happening at the same time.

Plus, if they're as good as they should be, these games should last us for years, and will therefore have a high level of concurrency.
